Meet Free Creatures... The Umami of Music 🎶 This fall, the Pacific Northwest’s Free Creatures return to Joshua Tree Music Festival with their irresistible mix of alt hip hop, psych rock, and EDM, a sound they call the umami of genres.
Expect bangin’ beats, harmonic hooks, expansive jams, and mindful lyrics, all delivered with playful improvisation that makes dancing inevitable. At the helm is emcee/producer Marv Ellis, crafting West Coast indie-style hip hop beats live on his MPC and delivering charismatic rhythmic poetry.
On upright bass and vocals, Emily Turner layers deep grooves with siren-like melodies and the occasional burst of trumpet. Skyler Squglio, a left-handed guitar wizard, brings soaring riffs and psychedelic textures that send the music into new dimensions. Since forming in 2019, Free Creatures have enjoyed steady, independent growth, touring nationally and playing major festivals. They kicked off 2024 opening for Dirtwire across the Pacific Northwest, and they’re keeping the momentum rolling with new releases and nonstop shows. This fall, they’ll light up the JTMF main stage once again.
