Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Journelle-it's basically what happens when someone decides lingerie shopping shouldn't feel like a chore. The name comes from this old French word "journellement" meaning "daily," which is kind of the whole point. They're not selling you special-occasion-only stuff that sits in a drawer 364 days a year. They want you wearing beautiful things every single day.
The flagship opened in Union Square back in December 2007, then they expanded to Soho in 2010, the Upper East Side in 2011, and finally made it to Chicago in 2015. And honestly? The expansion makes sense when you see what they're doing. They carry everything from everyday basics to special occasion pieces-pretty, lacy, delicate lingerie, plus loungewear, hosiery, shapewear, and accessories from brands like Chantelle, Hanky Panky, Eberjey, Fleur of England, Wolford, Natori, Simone Perele, and La Perla.
But here's where it gets interesting. In summer 2019, Journelle was acquired by Cosabella co-chief executive officer Guido Campello and his wife Sapna Palep. Palep's actually a dermatologist, which explains their recent pivot into wellness territory. They've been expanding beyond just lingerie into this whole lifestyle thing.
The in-store experience is apparently where they really shine. People rave about the personalized fittings and the vibe-it's serene, tastefully curated, not overwhelming. Though fair warning: customer reviews about their online operations are... mixed. Some folks have had issues with inventory tracking and customer service response times. The phone line's notoriously hard to reach, and they seem to rely heavily on text-based support.
Since 2012, they've partnered with the nonprofit Free The Girls for an annual Spring Cleaning bra drive, collecting gently used bras to support women rescued from trafficking, offering discounts to donors and donating $1 for each bra. So there's a social mission woven in there too.
The pricing sits firmly in the luxury category-this isn't your Target run. But if you're someone who believes your undergarments matter (and let's be real, they do), Journelle's built their whole brand around making that daily choice feel special. Whether that's worth the premium depends on how much you value that everyday lovely philosophy they're selling.
