Editor's Take
So here's the thing about KeySmart-it's one of those products that makes you wonder why nobody thought of it sooner. Back in 2013, some guy named Mike was just fed up with his jangling, pocket-poking keychain (we've all been there), and instead of complaining about it like the rest of us, he actually did something. After launching on Kickstarter in early 2013, KeySmart was one of the most popular products ever launched. Mike quit his job to take KeySmart on full time and has been making happy customers ever since. That Kickstarter campaign? It raised $329,862 and grew into a company with over 50 products.
What started as a simple aluminum key organizer-basically a Swiss Army knife for your keys-has evolved into this whole ecosystem of everyday carry gear. The original concept was dead simple: stack your keys between two lightweight aluminum plates, screw them together, and suddenly your bulky keyring becomes this sleek, pocket-friendly tool. No more jingle. No more thigh poke. Just organized keys that fold out when you need them.
But KeySmart didn't stop there. They've gotten into the smart tracking game with products that work with Apple's Find My network and Tile technology. The iPro model, for instance, has built-in Apple Find My support, a rechargeable battery, and even a flashlight-because why not? They've sold over 6 million units at this point, which is kind of wild when you think about it.
The company's based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, just outside Chicago, and they're part of a larger outfit called Curv Group. What's interesting is how they've maintained that Kickstarter DNA-they're still innovating, still launching new products, still trying to solve those little everyday annoyances that most people just accept. They've expanded beyond key organizers into wallets, smart trackers, and various EDC accessories.
Their product line now includes everything from the basic KeySmart Original (holds up to 8 keys, starts around $20) to the high-tech models with GPS tracking and flashlights. They've got the KeySmart Max with Tile tracking, the iPro with Apple Find My, and even accessories like bottle openers, USB drives, and multi-tools that attach right to your key organizer. It's like they looked at the keychain and said, "What if this could be your entire pocket toolkit?"
The materials are solid-aircraft-grade aluminum, stainless steel hardware-and they back everything with a 2-year warranty. That's pretty confident for a product that's literally designed to be carried every single day and take a beating.
What really stands out is how they've tapped into that minimalist EDC community. You know, the folks who obsess over carrying exactly what they need and nothing more. KeySmart fits perfectly into that world. And with the rise of item trackers like AirTags and Tile, they've smartly integrated those technologies rather than fighting against them.
The pricing is reasonable too. You can get into a basic KeySmart for under $20, or go all-out with a smart tracking model for $40-50. Not cheap, but not outrageous for something you'll use literally every day. Plus, they're constantly running sales and deals on Amazon and their own site.
One thing that's kind of refreshing-they're not trying to be everything to everyone. They found their lane (organizing your everyday carry) and they're just getting really, really good at it. Whether you need to wrangle 4 keys or 14, whether you want basic organization or full GPS tracking, they've probably got something that fits.
