Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Lake Pajamas-they're kind of the anti-fast-fashion answer to sleepwear that nobody knew they needed until they tried them. Founded by longtime friends Cassandra Cannon and Anne Read Lattimore in Savannah, Georgia, the brand emerged from a simple frustration: they couldn't find classic pajamas that were both stylish and comfortable. And honestly? That's so relatable it hurts.

What makes Lake different isn't just the softness everyone raves about (though yeah, their pajama sets come in exceptional fabrics like Pima cotton and DreamModal, and they really do live up to the hype). It's that they've managed to make bedtime feel like an event worth celebrating. They believe that downtime is sacred, comfort is critical, and great sleep is enhanced by quality sleepwear-which sounds almost revolutionary when you think about how many of us have been sleeping in ratty college t-shirts for years.

The brand started in 2014, basically as two new moms trying to solve their own problem, and it's grown into this whole thing. They've opened brick-and-mortar stores in Atlanta and Charleston, plus Southampton, and they've got 117,000 Instagram followers (as of 2023, probably more now). Celebrities like Jennifer Garner and Molly Sims wear them, which-let's be honest-doesn't hurt.

But here's where it gets interesting: the Pima cotton pajamas, many in stripes, have become the brand's flagship product. They're recognizable. You see someone in those signature stripes and you just know. And Lake's leaned into that with collaborations-they've worked with influencer Blair Eadie (1.9 million Instagram followers) on a 16-piece collection, plus others like Julia Berolzheimer and Jacey Duprie. Smart move, really, because these partnerships feel authentic rather than forced.

The pricing sits in that interesting luxury-but-not-insane zone-sets typically run $100-$130. Not cheap, but not "mortgage your house" territory either. And people seem willing to pay it because the quality's there. Cotton shrinks (they're upfront about that), and machine drying will make it worse, so you've got to lay them flat to dry. It's a commitment, kind of like owning nice leather shoes.

The company's based in Savannah, and that Low Country ease apparently inspires everything they do. You can feel it in the aesthetic-nothing too fussy, lots of blues and whites, classic stripes mixed with seasonal florals. They've expanded beyond just women's stuff too, now offering men's, kids', and baby pajamas, plus maternity options. The whole family-matching-pajamas thing, which could easily veer into cheesy territory, somehow works here.

One thing that's worth noting: their customer service is available Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm EST and Friday 9am-1pm. So if you need help outside those hours, you're waiting. And based on some customer reviews, the return policy can feel strict-they accept returns within 30 days, but items showing signs of washing or wear get refused. Fair enough, but it means you really need to try things on right away.

Still, there's something undeniably appealing about a brand that's managed to make pajamas feel special without being pretentious about it. In a world where we're all working from home half the time anyway, maybe investing in what you wear to bed (and, let's be real, to Zoom calls) isn't such a wild idea after all.
