Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Lalique-it's basically the Rolls-Royce of crystal, but with way more history and arguably more soul. Founded over a century ago in 1888, this isn't some flash-in-the-pan luxury brand trying to convince you they're worth your mortgage payment.

René Lalique started this whole empire when most people were still figuring out electricity. The guy was making jewelry for Sarah Bernhardt and creating perfume bottles that were literally works of art. And get this-from 1925 to 1931, Lalique produced 29 models of hood ornaments. Yeah, car hood ornaments. Because apparently even your automobile needed to be dripping in French luxury back then.

But here's what's genuinely fascinating: Under Marc's leadership, the company transitioned from producing its famous Lalique Glass to producing lead glass, commonly known as crystal. Since 2010, Cristal Lalique has been wholly owned by Art & Fragrance, who rebranded in 2016 as Lalique Group. So while you're admiring that frosted crystal vase, you're actually looking at decades of evolution and adaptation.

Today's Lalique isn't just sitting around polishing old trophies. The Group specializes in the creation, development, marketing and global distribution of luxury products - ranging from perfumes and cosmetics to crystal, jewellery, high-end furniture and lifestyle accessories. The Group is also active in the fields of art, gastronomy and hospitality, as well as single malt whisky. They've got hotels, restaurants, and even whisky now. It's like they decided luxury crystal wasn't enough-they wanted to own your entire lifestyle.

And the craftsmanship? Still insane. The extraordinary skill of the region's glassmakers brought René Lalique to the Northern Vosges. Today, nearly two hundred men and women still put their mastery and knowledge at the service of creation. These aren't machines churning out mass-produced trinkets. Every piece still requires actual human artisans who probably know more about crystal than most people know about their own jobs.

The pricing reflects all this heritage and handwork, obviously. But when you're buying Lalique, you're not just getting a decorative object-you're getting a piece of French art history that happens to look stunning on your mantle.
