Editor's Take
There's something kind of magical about a company that's been around since 1889 and still manages to feel relevant. Lenox isn't just selling plates and bowls - they're basically selling the idea that your everyday meals deserve a little more ceremony, a little more beauty. And honestly? In a world of paper plates and takeout containers, that's not nothing.
Founded in 1889 with a vision to set the highest standards for quality, beauty, and artistry, Lenox has this fascinating history of being the go-to for American elegance. In 1918, Lenox became the first American china to be used in the White House, and since then, six presidents and first ladies commissioned Lenox to issue new state dinnerware services. Think about that - your grandmother's china pattern might share DNA with what's sitting on the president's table.
But here's where it gets interesting. Lenox isn't stuck in some dusty past. In addition to their eponymous brand Lenox, their other brands include Oneida, Cambridge, Hampton Forge, Reed & Barton, Kate Spade New York, and Gorham. So whether you're looking for classic ivory china or something with a Kate Spade twist, they've got you covered. It's like they've figured out how to honor tradition while still speaking to people who shop online and care about Instagram-worthy tablescapes.
The company went through some rough patches - Lenox ceased production at the Kinston factory on March 18, 2020, due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, and on April 17 the company announced that the closure would become permanent. That was a big deal because they were basically the last significant manufacturer of bone china in the United States. But they pivoted, as everyone had to during that time, and now they're focused on bringing globally-sourced, high-quality products to customers primarily through their online presence.
What's really cool is how they've maintained this reputation for craftsmanship. Upholding a legacy of craftsmanship and excellence established over 200 years ago and profoundly inspired by how people live and gather today, they're a leader in the tabletop industry, delivering timeless products that elevate every day. Lenox Corporation encompasses a diverse portfolio of premium brands, all with a unique perspective.
And let's talk about the practical stuff. Their customer service seems pretty solid - you can reach them by phone, email, or chat. They've got a generous 120-day return policy for most items. Plus, they're constantly releasing new collections and collaborating with designers, so there's always something fresh to discover.
Whether you're registering for a wedding, replacing your college-era mismatched dishes, or just want to make Tuesday night dinner feel a bit more special, Lenox has positioned itself as that sweet spot between "too fancy to use" and "good enough." And after 130-plus years, they've probably figured something out about what makes people want to gather around a beautifully set table.
