Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Lensabl-they've basically cracked the code on one of life's most annoying problems. You know that moment when your prescription changes but your favorite frames are still perfect? Or when you accidentally sit on your glasses and need new lenses but can't bear to part with those frames that took you three hours to pick out?
That's where Lensabl comes in, and honestly, it's kind of brilliant in its simplicity. They've built this whole business around replacing lenses in your existing frames, which sounds obvious until you realize how much of a pain this usually is at traditional optical shops.
The process is refreshingly straightforward. You order online, they send you a prepaid shipping box, you mail your frames to their lab, and they send them back with new lenses. Production typically takes 4-7 business days once they receive your frames, assuming they have all your prescription details.
And let's talk numbers for a second. New prescription lenses start at $97, which is pretty competitive when you consider that traditional optical retailers often charge significantly more. Founded in 2016 and based in Los Angeles, California, Lensabl is an online retailer of optical goods that's managed to carve out a solid niche in the eyewear market.
But here's what really sets them apart-they're not just doing lens replacement anymore. They've expanded into contact lenses, offering all major brands like Acuvue, Biofinity, and Proclear with fast, safe, and free at-home delivery. It's like they looked at the entire vision care ecosystem and said, "Why can't this all be easier?"
The company has some serious backing too. Lensabl has raised a total of $4M of funding over 3 rounds, with their latest funding round raised on Oct 25, 2019 in the amount of $4M. That kind of investment suggests investors see real potential in disrupting the traditional optical retail model.
What's particularly smart about their approach is how they've positioned themselves for people without vision insurance. Lensabl is an out-of-network provider for many insurance networks, but they help customers apply for reimbursement. It's a clever way to serve a market that's often overlooked by traditional providers.
