Returns
What is the return window?
Most unused merchandise can be returned up to 90 days from the item's ship date. For orders placed between November 15th to December 31st, eligible holiday purchases can be returned up to 150 days after your item's ship date to receive a refund.
Do I need a receipt to return an item?
To initiate a return, head to "Track My Order" at the top of the page, pop in your Order Number and hit "Continue", then tap "View Order Details", enter your email, and click "Continue". Lids will handle the rest and send you a return label, with return labels sent to the email address associated with your order or account.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
All Trading Cards (Encapsulated, Loose, or Boxed), Game Used, Vintage, Customized and Personalized items cannot be returned. Returns must be unworn with any original tags and labels intact, and items should be in their original condition, unworn or unused, with all tags and labels attached.
How will I receive my refund?
Once Lids gets your return, it takes about 10 business days for their team to receive and process the item, and they'll email you once it's all set. It can take 2-7 business days for your refund to show up in your financial institution. If you select a gift card refund, it will be emailed to you within 24 hours of the return being processed.
Can I return online purchases in-store?
Items purchased in-venue cannot be returned through the online portal and must be returned at the original venue. Similarly, online store purchases must be returned directly through the online store.

So here's the thing about Lids - it's basically become the default destination for anyone who's ever wanted to rep their team without looking like they just walked out of a tourist trap. And honestly? They've earned that spot.
Walk into pretty much any mall in North America and you'll find one. Over 1,200 stores, actually, which is kind of wild when you think about it. But what's interesting is how they've managed to stay relevant in an era when most mall retailers are, well, struggling. The secret sauce seems to be this intersection of sports fandom and streetwear culture that they've nailed down.
The customization thing is huge. Like, you can walk in with a blank hat and walk out with basically whatever you want embroidered on it - team logos, your own designs, whatever. It's that Custom Zone setup they've got in most locations, and it's become kind of their signature move. Because let's be real, everyone wants their gear to feel a little bit personal, right?
They carry all the major leagues - MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, NCAA - plus they've gotten into fashion brands like Von Dutch and Playboy. So even if you're not a sports person (though, why are you in Lids then?), there's still something for you. New Era, Mitchell & Ness, '47 - all the brands that actually matter in the hat game.
What's kind of fascinating is how they've adapted. They launched Lids Hat Drop, which does exclusive limited-edition releases every Friday. It's basically their answer to sneaker culture, but for hats. And it's working - people are actually lining up for hat drops now, which would've sounded absurd ten years ago.
The company's been around since 1995, operating out of Indianapolis. They're now owned by Fanatics, which acquired them in 2021, so they've got that massive sports merchandise infrastructure backing them. That means when your team wins a championship, Lids has the gear ready basically immediately. Like, championship hats are available within hours. That's the kind of operational efficiency that keeps them ahead.
Their loyalty program, Access Pass, is pretty straightforward - $10 a year gets you 20% off and double points. Not revolutionary, but it works. And their return policy is actually pretty generous - 90 days for most items, which is way better than a lot of retailers these days.
But here's what really sets them apart: they're everywhere, they've got everything, and they make it easy. Need a last-minute gift for a sports fan? Lids. Want to customize something unique? Lids. Looking for that specific team's gear in the latest style? Probably Lids. They've basically become the one-stop shop for sports headwear and apparel, and in retail, being the default choice is basically winning.
