Maestro of the Movies - Hollywood Bowl (Aug. 22-24)
A highlight of the Hollywood Bowl’s summer season, Maestro of the Movies: Celebrating the Music of John Williams returns for three nights beginning Friday, August 22. Conductor David Newman will lead the LA Phil through selections from beloved films like Jaws, E.T., Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark and, of course, Star Wars.

Now on tour in support of their recently released 10th album, is, My Morning Jacket plays the Hollywood Palladium on Tuesday, August 19, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 2005 album, Z. This is one of just five Z anniversary shows on the current North American jaunt, so fans will not want to miss this all-ages show.

Moonrise Kingdom in 35mm - Academy Museum (Aug. 23)
Oscar-nominated for Best Original Screenplay, Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola’s quirky Moonrise Kingdom tells the tale of 12-year-olds Sam and Suzy, who escape from Camp Ivanhoe and wander into the wilderness off the New England coast. The pair fall into their cute courtship while every adult in their lives tries to find them before a dangerous storm makes landfall. Featuring first-time actors Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the charming tweens in a budding romance, this off-kilter camp story will screen at the Academy Museum on Saturday, August 23.

Lucha VaVoom de la Liz - Mayan Theatre (Aug. 22)
With The Mayan set to close in September, you don’t want to miss Lucha VaVoom de la Liz, which presents “The Good, The Bad and the Fabulous” at the historic venue on Friday, August 22. Come for the mix of lucha libre and burlesque, but be sure to soak in the details of this Downtown LA architectural gem while you’re there. Doors open an hour before the 8pm show time, so plan to arrive early.

Angel City FC takes on the 2024 NWSL champs Orlando Pride at BMO Stadium on Thursday, August 21. This will also be Toy Night presented by Bandai Namco, the first toy brand to sponsor a major U.S. professional women’s sports team. The action starts at 7:30pm.

LA Galaxy vs. Colorado Rapids - Dignity Health Sports Park (Aug. 23)
The LA Galaxy are back home this weekend to take on Colorado Rapids at Dignity Health Sports Park for a 7:30pm match on Saturday, August 23. Gates open nine minutes before kickoff.

Shucked - Pantages Theatre (Aug. 19 - Sep. 7)
Shucked, the Tony-winning musical comedy with a book by Robert Horn (Tootsie) and music from Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, opens at Hollywood’s Pantages Theatre on Tuesday, August 19, where it will run through September 7, with matinees on the weekends.
