We Love LA: Netflix Is a Joke, Sparks Basketball and a Puppet Prom

This year's Netflix Is a Joke festival brings more than 355 shows to the Los Angeles area throughout the first week of May, but that's not all that's happening in LA between Monday, May 4 and Sunday, May 10.  The WNBA regular season begins with the LA Sparks playing the Las Vegas Aces at Crypto, Bob Baker Marionette Theatre throws a Puppet Prom, José González plays The Bellwether and much more.

Printed Matter - ArtCenter College of Design (May 7 - 10)
Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair is back at ArtCenter College of Design from Thursday, May 7,  through Sunday, May 10. This year’s event will include a Reading Room and music programming, plus special presentations in the Project Space, in addition to a mix of artists and publishers from L.A. and beyond selling their latest works.

Throughout the week of May 4, Netflix Is a Joke Fest takes over Los Angeles venues large and small to present 440+ artists performing in 355+ shows. From a screening of The Princess Bride with Cary Elwes at Wilshire Ebell (May 4) to Night of Too Many Stars at Hollywood Bowl (May 7) to A Visit from Portlandia with Fred & Carrie at The Ford (May 8) to Hasan Hates Ronny/Ronny Hates Hasan and Dolby Theatre (May 8-9) there’s something for everyone. Ofelia Esparza Closing Celebration - Vincent Price Art Museum (May 9)
Celebrate artist, educator and master altarista Ofelia Esparza as her career-spanning retrospective at the Vincent Price Art Museum comes to a close. While the show itself runs through May 16, the closing celebration will be held on May 9 and will include a panel discussion, live music, screen-printing and more. 

Puppet Prom - Garibaldina Society (May 9)
Bob Baker Marionette Theater’s annual Puppet Prom fundraiser is back at the Garibaldina Society on Saturday, May 9. The “grown ups only” event includes an Italian dinner and dessert bar, plus wine and custom cocktails, music from DJs Dolphinforce and Kindness, live painting, photo booths and, of course, puppets. Dress in your prom night best.

Noah’s Flood - Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (May 8 - 9)
LA Opera’s Community Opera program brings Noah’s Flood to the Cathedral of Our Lady Queen of the Angels for two performances. See the production on Friday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. or Saturday, May 9, at 3 p.m.
