So here's the thing about LoveShackFancy-it's basically what happens when someone takes every romantic, vintage-inspired daydream you've ever had and turns it into an actual lifestyle brand. And I mean that in the best way possible.
Rebecca Hessel Cohen started this whole empire in 2013 because she couldn't find the right bridesmaid dresses for her wedding. Like, she was working as a fashion editor at Cosmopolitan, planning her fairy-tale Hamptons wedding, and just thought "you know what? I'll make them myself." That hand-dyed halter dress she created? It became the foundation for what's now a global brand with 25 boutiques, collaborations with everyone from Gap to Stanley (yes, those viral tumblers), and a devoted following that spans generations.
The aesthetic is unmistakable-think florals, ruffles, lace, bows, and basically every shade of pink imaginable. It's maximalist femininity cranked up to eleven, but somehow it works. The brand draws heavily from vintage inspiration, with Cohen literally scouring flea markets across the US and Europe for antique fabrics and Victorian lace to inform her designs. Her mother, who was creative director at Seventeen magazine, actually came up with the name "LoveShackFancy" for a prop-styling business she never launched. Full-circle moment right there.
What's interesting is how the brand has evolved beyond just dresses. They've got beauty products (three signature fragrances with names like Forever in Love and Bohème), home goods, children's wear, activewear, and even a bridal collection. It's become this whole universe where you can basically live your entire life in their rose-colored world-matching your iPhone case to your bags to your bows, as Cohen herself puts it. They've done collaborations with Pottery Barn, American Girl, Bogner ski wear, and most recently a buzzy collection with Victoria's Secret PINK that dropped in 2025.
The company now has around 450 retail partners including Sephora, Neiman Marcus, and Harrods, plus their own boutiques scattered across the US (and one in London). Their newest flagship just opened in SoHo in October 2025, and it's apparently this immersive experience with dedicated spaces for each category-fashion, beauty, home-all designed to feel like you're stepping into a dreamy LoveShackFancy girl's first apartment.
But it's not all ruffles and romance. The brand has faced some criticism for quality control issues and customer service challenges, with some customers reporting problems with returns and damaged items. And let's be real-the price point is steep. We're talking designer-level pricing for pieces that lean heavily into a very specific aesthetic. You either love it or you don't.
Still, there's something undeniably appealing about a brand that's so unapologetically committed to its vision. In an era of minimalism and quiet luxury, LoveShackFancy is out here saying "more is more is more" (Cohen's actual words) and building a loyal community around that philosophy. The brand's Instagram has over 1 million followers, and their TikTok presence is strong with 451,000 followers who genuinely seem obsessed with the aesthetic.
What makes it work, I think, is that it's not trend-driven. The pieces have this timeless quality despite being so ornate-probably because they're rooted in actual vintage design rather than chasing whatever's hot on the runway. Cohen talks about wanting to create pieces that last, that get better with wear, using custom hand-painted florals and techniques inspired by the 1800s.
It's also very much a family affair. Cohen's husband Todd handles the business side, her daughters (now 9 and 11) help with product development and picking runway looks, and her mother-the "senior intern"-is still involved. That personal touch comes through in everything they do, from the store designs to the collaborations to the way they talk about the brand as creating "everyday magic."
Whether you're into the whole maximalist romantic thing or not, you've gotta respect the hustle. Cohen turned a side project into a lifestyle empire while raising two kids and staying true to a very specific vision. And in a fashion landscape that can feel pretty homogeneous, LoveShackFancy definitely stands out.
