Lucky Brand isn't just another denim company-it's basically the embodiment of that effortlessly cool American vibe you see in old road trip movies. Founded back in 1990 by Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman, this brand has been doing the whole "vintage-inspired jeans with character" thing since before it was trendy.
What's fascinating is how they've managed to stay relevant through some serious industry upheaval. They filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and got acquired by Authentic Brands Group, but honestly? You'd never know it from their current presence. Now they're operated by SPARC Group LLC, which also handles brands like Aéropostale, Brooks Brothers, and Forever 21-talk about a fashion powerhouse.
The brand's whole aesthetic is rooted in this romanticized version of Americana. They draw inspiration from surfers, cowboys, artists, musicians, and photographers, plus anyone who embodies their fun-loving vibe, finding ideas everywhere from Big Sur's secluded outlooks to Venice's old-school tattoo parlors. It's that perfectly imperfect California cool that somehow works whether you're 22 or 52.
And here's something you might not know: Lucky jeans manufactured in the United States are hand-made in Los Angeles with hand-done detailing, and in 2013 they re-introduced Made in America jeans using denim from Cone Denim's White Oak Mill in North Carolina, then hand-stitched in LA. That's some serious craftsmanship in an era of fast fashion.
Their Lucky Brand Foundation, launched in 1996, has raised over $8 million through fundraising events featuring performers like Jackson Browne and B.B. King, with their annual Black Tie & Blue Jeans Gala raising approximately $6 million for children's charities. So they're not just about looking good-they're actually doing good too.
