Returns
What is the return window?
Madewell's return policy allows customers to return unworn and unused items within 30 days of purchase, either in-store or online, for a full refund or store credit. This return window applies to both in-store and online purchases.
Do I need a receipt to return an item?
Returns made in-store must be accompanied by the original receipt or packing slip. For online purchases, customers can initiate the return process by logging into their account and following the provided instructions.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
Items purchased from the Final Sale section or Monogram Shop are considered final sale and are not eligible for returns or exchanges. Madewell does not allow for the return of worn or washed items, and it limits returns of swimwear, bodysuits, and intimates to cases where the item's original tag and hygienic liner is intact. Monogrammed, personalized, and final sale items-including vintage items and garments that have been altered-are also not eligible for return.
How will I receive my refund?
Madewell refunds go back to your original payment method-like your credit card or gift card-unless they agree to process it another way. Generally, Madewell credits customers' refunds to their original form of payment. In the case of purchases initially made with cash in-store, customers requesting refunds or exchanges must present their original receipt.
Can I return online purchases in-store?
Yes, most items purchased online at Madewell.com are eligible for return at any Madewell store location. You can return an online order to any Madewell location.

Here's the thing about Madewell-it's basically what happens when someone finally figures out that women want jeans that actually fit without having to take out a second mortgage. Since 2006, they've been doing this whole premium-denim-at-reasonable-prices thing, and honestly? It's kind of genius.
The brand started way back in 1937 as a workwear company making overalls for fishermen in Massachusetts. Fast forward to 2006, and J.Crew bought the name and completely reinvented it. Now it's all about that effortless, slightly tomboy-ish aesthetic that somehow works whether you're 22 or 52. Their Instagram has over 2 million followers, which tells you something about how they've nailed the whole aspirational-but-attainable vibe.
But let's talk about what really sets them apart. While parent company J.Crew has been struggling (like, really struggling), Madewell pulled in over $500 million in revenue and keeps growing. The secret sauce? They actually listen to what people want. Their denim comes from mills in Italy, Japan, and Turkey, and they're big on Fair Trade production. Plus, they have this trade-in program where you can bring in old jeans from any brand and get $20 off new ones-the old pairs either get resold through their "Madewell Forever" program or turned into housing insulation. Not nothing when it comes to sustainability.
The stores themselves are worth mentioning. They've got around 155 locations across the US, and each one offers services like one-on-one styling, denim hemming, and even leather stamping. It's that whole "make it yours" approach that keeps people coming back. And their Madewell Insider loyalty program? Over 60% of customers are members, which is pretty wild when you think about it.
What's interesting is how they've adapted to different platforms. On TikTok, they're doing quick styling videos and DIY jean-to-shorts tutorials. Instagram gets the high-res product shots. YouTube is all about haul videos and how-tos. They're not just throwing the same content everywhere and hoping something sticks-they're actually tailoring it to each platform's audience.
The price point sits in that sweet spot where you're not wincing at checkout but you're also getting quality that'll last more than three washes. Their Perfect Vintage Jean has basically achieved cult status, and their leather bags have that worn-in look that somehow gets better with age instead of just looking beat up.
So yeah, if you're looking for jeans that fit like they were made for actual human bodies, or you want that whole casual-cool wardrobe without spending Nordstrom money, Madewell's probably worth checking out. They've figured out how to make "effortless style" actually feel effortless, which is harder than it sounds.
