Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Maje-it's one of those brands that just gets it. You know that feeling when you walk into a store and everything looks expensive but somehow isn't completely out of reach? That's basically Maje's whole vibe. Founded by French-Moroccan designer Judith Milgrom in 1998 with one goal in mind: to design beautiful, wearable pieces for "women who live several lives in one day."

And honestly, that tagline isn't just marketing fluff. The brand really does nail that Parisian thing where clothes look effortlessly chic but are actually super wearable. Milgrom has always adored the chic yet effortless style of Parisian women and wanted to bring the style of the City of Light to the rest of the world. The result? A collection that marries timeless shapes with sharp accents for today's woman.

What makes Maje stand out in the crowded contemporary fashion space is its attention to detail. We're talking about those subtle touches-a unique button here, an unexpected print there-that elevate a basic piece into something you'll actually want to wear on repeat. The brand has 640 points of sale and close to 1,700 talented employees in 45 countries. In 2023, Maje achieved a turnover of more than 462.5 million euros. Those aren't small numbers for a brand that started as a single boutique in Paris.

But here's what's really interesting: Maje is part of the SMCP Group (along with Sandro and Claudie Pierlot), which means it has serious backing and infrastructure. Yet it's managed to maintain that boutique feel. You can find Maje in standalone stores, premium outlets, and department stores like Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom across the US.

The brand's also getting serious about sustainability, which is refreshing. They're conscious about their footprint on the planet and are committed to sustainable design. Their eco-friendly collection uses natural, organic, biodegradable and recycled materials. Plus, they've launched a second-hand program, which is pretty forward-thinking for a contemporary brand.

Shopping Maje feels like you're getting that French girl aesthetic without having to actually fly to Paris (though let's be honest, we'd all love to). The pieces mix and match easily with what you already own, which is kind of the point. Whether you're looking for a leather jacket that'll last years, a dress that works for both the office and dinner, or accessories that add that certain je ne sais quoi, Maje delivers. And with free shipping and a pretty reasonable 30-day return policy, there's not much risk in giving it a try.
