We take our jobs seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We need people that know when to have fun and when to work hard. Most days won't even really feel like work, but we know how to switch gears and get serious when we need to.

Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Marine Layer-they're basically what happens when someone gets really, really obsessed with making the perfect t-shirt. And honestly? It worked.

The whole story started because founder Mike Natenshon's girlfriend threw out his favorite shirt back in 2009. Instead of just buying a new one like a normal person, he decided to create an entire clothing company. Marine Layer was founded in 2009 after our founder's girlfriend threw out his old favorite shirt. He set out to make a shirt that feels broken-in, comfortable, and absurdly soft from day one. Talk about commitment to comfort.

What makes them different isn't just the "absurdly soft" tagline they love throwing around-though their fabrics really are ridiculously comfortable. We've custom-developed over 100 absurdly soft fabrics, (like, the softest thing you'll ever wear) opened 45+ brick-and-mortar locations, and recycled 500K tee shirts (and counting) through our one-of-a-kind Re-Spun program. They've actually put serious thought into sustainability, which is refreshing in an industry that's not exactly known for being environmentally conscious.

Their Re-Spun program is pretty clever-you can bring in old t-shirts (from any brand) and they'll recycle them into new Marine Layer pieces. See how we're saving 650,000 lbs of clothes from landfills. It's one of those rare corporate initiatives that actually seems to matter beyond just good PR.

The brand has this laid-back California vibe that feels authentic rather than manufactured. Absurdly soft clothes designed in San Francisco and enjoyed by all. They're not trying to be high fashion or streetwear-just really well-made basics that happen to feel amazing. And with over 45 stores now, they've managed to scale without losing that neighborhood feel.
