Editor's Take

You know what's kind of amazing about MindWare? They've been quietly revolutionizing how kids learn through play since 1990, and honestly, most parents stumble onto them by accident-then become completely obsessed.

Started with just a tiny retail store in Minneapolis, but here's the thing that gets me: their first big hit was something called Bella's Mystery Deck back in 1997, and it's still flying off shelves today. That's staying power you don't see often in the toy world.

But what really sets them apart is this whole "Brainy Toys for Kids of All Ages" philosophy. They've got everything from educational toys and games to brainteasers, building sets, and coloring books-basically, if it makes your brain work while having fun, they're probably selling it. And the awards? Mensa Select, Good Housekeeping, Parents' Choice, even Germany's prestigious Spiel des Jahres. That's like winning the toy industry's version of the EGOT.

The Qwirkle game alone has become this family game night staple that somehow works for everyone from kindergarteners to grandparents. Ever notice how rare that is? Most games either bore the adults or frustrate the kids, but MindWare seems to have cracked that code.

In 2013, Oriental Trading Company (yeah, the party supply people) bought them, making MindWare part of the Berkshire Hathaway family. So now Warren Buffett technically owns part of your kid's favorite puzzle company. Wild, right?

What I love most is how they've managed to stay focused on that sweet spot between education and entertainment. Their mission is literally "to make the world smarter through playful learning," and honestly? I think they're actually pulling it off.
