Returns

What is the return window?
Refund and cancellation requests can be made for any reason within seven (7) calendar days of activation. The full purchase price and any associated taxes and fees will be refunded, provided that the Mint Mobile purchase was made directly from mintmobile.com and the refund request form was successfully completed.

Do I need a receipt to return an item?
The phone must have been purchased directly from mintmobile.com. Returns must be accompanied by a Return Authorization Number written on the outside return package, and you will be emailed a Return label with a unique Return Authorization Number once your return has been authorized.

Are there any items that are non-returnable?
You are not required to physically return the SIM kit in order to cancel your new service activation. For phones, SIM Kits, and accessories purchased directly from mintmobile.com, refund requests can be made for any reason within seven (7) calendar days of the original delivery date, and once you have initiated your refund request within the required 7-day window and received approval, you must ship the item back in "like-new" condition.

How will I receive my refund?
Mint Mobile will refund your phone payment to your card on file (minus shipping & handling) within 10 business days of receiving and processing the return. For wireless phone plan service, you can cancel for any reason within 7 days of activation and receive a 100% refund of the purchase price, including any fees and taxes, though shipping is not refunded.

What if I received a damaged or incorrect item?
Any claims for damage, delivery discrepancies, or other issues must be made within three (3) business days of the original delivery date; claims made after three (3) business days will be declined. If your goods arrive in a damaged state, sign in to request a Return online, and any applicable return shipping costs will be covered.

Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Mint Mobile-it's basically what happens when someone finally asks "why are we all paying this much for phone service?" And then actually does something about it.

Ryan Reynolds owns part of it, which you probably already knew because the ads are everywhere. But that's not really the story here. The story is that Mint figured out how to sell wireless service for $15 a month when everyone else charges five times that. They did it by cutting out all the stuff that makes traditional carriers expensive: no retail stores, no salespeople, no confusing contracts that require a law degree to understand.

The company operates as a mobile virtual network operator owned by T-Mobile US, which acquired it for $1.3 billion in cash and stock. That's real money for a company that launched in 2016. In 2021, Mint Mobile was named "the fastest growing company in America"-which makes sense when you're offering the same 5G network coverage for a fraction of the price.

Here's how it works: you buy service in bulk, like you're at Costco but for your phone plan. Three months, six months, twelve months-the more you buy upfront, the less you pay per month. It's prepaid, which means no surprise bills, no overage charges, no "administrative fees" that mysteriously appear. They deliver premium wireless service on the nation's largest 5G network but for way less than what overpriced wireless companies charge because they don't have retail stores and don't have salespeople-they just deliver huge savings directly to you.

The catch? Well, there isn't really one in the traditional sense. You're using T-Mobile's network, so coverage is solid. Unlimited customers using over 35GB per month may experience lower speeds during times of network congestion, and video streams at standard definition with up to 10GB mobile hotspot included. But honestly, most people use way less than 35GB anyway.

Customer service is surprisingly good for a budget carrier. Their team is available 7 days a week from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PST, with hold times less than a minute and 97% customer satisfaction ratings from post-call surveys. J.D. Power's 2023 wireless customer care study puts Mint Mobile in the top 2 for customer satisfaction among value MVNOs with a ranking of 864 points out of a maximum 1,000 points, exceeding the segment average of 815 points and beating competitors like Straight Talk and Tracfone-and even ahead of AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

The whole operation feels refreshingly straightforward. You can bring your own phone if it's unlocked and compatible. You can try it out with a 7-day money-back guarantee. You manage everything through an app. There's no haggling with store employees or sitting on hold for an hour trying to understand why your bill went up.

The company has grown from a scrappy startup to serving millions of customers, all while maintaining that "we don't hate you" attitude that feels genuine in an industry known for the opposite. They've figured out that treating customers like adults who can handle buying phone service online-without all the upselling and confusion-actually works pretty well.
