Englert Presents: Songwriter SeriesLoudon Wainwright III + Chris Smither Live @ The EnglertThursday, April 9th @ 7:30 PM |
Here’s a rare chance to see two venerable musicians. It was the late 1960’s on Charles Street in Boston, outside one of the legendary clubs during the folk revival era, these two new-to-the-scene young musicians first met. They’ve stayed friends ever since with their paths crossing at folk festivals and concert halls and folk clubs. Over the years, the two have guest-appeared on each other’s record, Chris sang on “Somebody Else” for Loudon’s Older Than My Old Man Now record. Then Loudon lent a hand on Chris’ 50-year career retrospective recording Still on the Levee (singing on “What They Say”). Throughout the decades, they each have made their own individual and indelible mark on the contemporary singer-songwriter scene with Wainwright, known for his “Dead Skunk” song and Smither, known for “Love You Like A Man”. They have both recorded numerous albums and continue to tour as journeymen. Acting is also a common thread they share with Wainwright having been in many plays, TV shows, and movies including the hit TV show M.A.S.H and on Broadway Pump Boys and Dinettes. Smither recently made his acting debut in the short film The Singers. Their most recent recordings are Wainwright’s Live In London (2025) and Smither’s All About the Bones (2024). |

The Englert PresentsGirl Named Tom
featuring Andrew Pauls Live @ The EnglertSaturday, April 11th @ 7:30 PM |
“The sibling trio speaks openly about the album’s core idea: that there is “freedom in the fragility of life,” and that the cycles of birth, loss, and renewal shape not only their music, but their perspective. The result is a body of work that feels intentional, grounded, and human—songs that not only sound good but also resonate with you on a personal level.
What makes Dust to Dust stand out is its emotional arc. It begins in anxiety and introspection, then gradually expands outward toward connection, community, and hope. The band leans into vulnerability as a strength, trusting that honesty will resonate. “It’s good to believe in each other,” they share—and that idea carries through every harmony and lyric.
With this album, Girl Named Tom continue to build not just an impressive music catalog, but a relationship with their audience—one rooted in authenticity, growth, and the simple reminder that everything will be all right,” (Music Connection). |

The Englert PresentsNorth Mississippi Allstars Live @ The EnglertSunday, April 12th @ 7:30 PM |
“Southern soul sanctuary — part juke joint, part gospel revival, and wholly alive. Touring in support of their latest album, Still Shakin’ (released June 6 via New West Records)…Over nearly three decades, the Allstars have carried forward the spirit of north Mississippi hill-country blues, weaving its hypnotic one-chord grooves into modern rock, funk, and gospel textures. A recent feature in Reno News & Review highlighted how the addition of Williams and Holloman injected a renewed gospel energy and versatility into the band’s sound — especially through what they call their “switcheroo” concept, where members trade instruments from song to song… The setlist flowed like a conversation between generations, honoring the ghosts of Mississippi’s hill country while embracing new sounds born of collaboration and experimentation. Every note felt intentional yet free, proof that the band’s chemistry has evolved into something both reverent and restless. The North Mississippi Allstars are still shakin’, indeed — shaking the blues out of history’s dust, and into the present tense,” (Park Life DC). |
