On Saturday, the LA cumbia band Buyepongo takes the stage, joined by locals Misa La Familia Digital. Buyepongo is a riotous fusion of influences, seamlessly blending hip-hop, punk, funk, and jazz into a deliriously infectious tropical mix that spans the rich tapestry of the Latin American culture. Check out their groove in the video above. As we celebrate latin heritage this week, Buyepongo gives us a chance to dance, rejoice, and come together. This is a general admission show, so anyone can get up front and dance! | | Englert Presents White Reaper with Lip Critic and World's Worst 📍Gabe's 📅 Saturday, October 4 @ 9:00 PM | | | We've got a double-header on Saturday, as the late show heads to Gabe's with White Reaper, Lip Critic, and World's Worst. If you're a fan of garage rock, this 3-band lineup is the show for you. For over a decade, White Reaper has been one of modern music’s most satisfying rock bands, reliably reminding listeners how truly rewarding cranked up amps and a good chorus can be. Lip Critic and World's Worst aren't openers to scoff at, either, as both bands are becoming veterans on the touring circuit in rock music. Come rock with us at Gabe's on Saturday night! | | Englert and Semana Cultural Latina present Entretijiendo Corazones: Musica, Danza, Poesia y Memoria 📍The Englert Theatre 📅 Sunday, October 5 @ 5:00 PM | | | This event is a production of choreographer and artistic director Eloy Barragán, associate professor in the Department of Dance at the University of Iowa. His creative work combines contemporary dance, memory, and Latin American traditions. Visit dance.uiowa.edu/people/eloy-barragan for more details. At 5:30 p.m., Colectivo LuchArte will present a Pop-Up Art Show featuring the work of Miriam Alarcón Avila, Iowa NICE, Make Iowa Nice Again, in the mezzanine gallery. From 5:30 to 5:55 p.m., Sunset Salsa will play live salsa music on stage. | | | |
