Friday, November 15 @ 7:00pm | | | Great Plains Action Society’s 9th annual Truthsgiving celebration will be on stage at The Englert this year with Audiopharmacy and guest speakers V Fixmer-Oraiz – Johnson County Supervisor, Alejandra Escobar – Escucha Mi Voz, Joe Maxwell – U of I Native American Student Association & The Iowa City Free Fridge Organizers. The event will be hosted by Jessica Engelking, Marie Krebs, and Dave Whiting. Truthsgiving is a celebration that rejects the colonial myth behind Thanksgiving that perpetuates dangerous stereotypes and whitewashed history. Jonathan Richman featuring Tommy Larkins on drums Live @ The Englert
Friday, October 17 @ 7:30pm | | | The Englert Songwriter Series returns with Jonathan Richman, the bilingual songwriting powerhouse. He released his newest album Only Frozen Sky Anyway this summer, and is taking his act with collaborator Tommy Larkins to The Englert. Some songs are in English, others in Spanish, and all will leave audiences with lasting memories.
