Truthsgiving

Co-Presented by Great Plains Action Society

Live at The Englert Theatre

Saturday, November 15 @ 7:30pm

Join us at the 9th annual Truthsgiving! Truthsgiving is a celebration that rejects the colonial myth behind Thanksgiving that perpetuates dangerous stereotypes and whitewashed history. It is a time to hear truth from speakers about current issues and celebrate truth with music, song, and dance.

This year, Truthsgiving features Bay Area hip-hop band Audiopharmacy. Their unique sound is eclectic + avant-garde, yet rooted in the voice of the people and Mama Earth. By intricately fusing turntablism, live instrumentation, global musical styles, poetic lyricism, movement, visual projection, and indigenous prayers, Audiopharmacy elevates the meaning, sound, and purpose of Hip Hop.

The event will also feature two guest speakers: V Fixmer-Oraiz from the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, and Joe Maxwell – U of I Native American Student Association  & The Iowa City Free Fridge Organizers. The event will be hosted by Jessica Engelking, Marie Krebs, and Dave Whiting. We hope to see you there tonight for a night of celebration and learning!
