Preston Caldwell, Ivanna Hampton New Stock Analyst Reports Nvidia (NVDA) and OpenAI announced a letter of intent for a strategic partnership to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems for OpenAI’s artificial intelligence infrastructure. Nvidia intends to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI “as new Nvidia systems are deployed.” We think this partnership fits within the framework of the $500 billion Stargate project, announced in January. OpenAI and its Stargate partners have tremendous aspirations for AI, and Nvidia is cementing its role in these buildouts. We maintain our $190 fair value estimate and Very High Uncertainty Rating for wide-moat Nvidia. Bloomberg reported that Tesla (TSLA) has received approval to begin testing its autonomous driving ride-hailing service in Arizona. Tesla is currently testing its robotaxi service in Texas, California, and Nevada. Entering a new market signals that this testing is going well enough to expand. A market entrance in multiple cities supports our view that robotaxis will quickly expand and gain market share. We think Tesla will capture 30% of the US and Canada ride-hailing market by 2035. Pfizer (PFE) announced on Sept. 22 that it plans to acquire Metsera and its obesity drug candidates for $4.9 billion upfront and up to $2.4 billion in contingent payments based on pipeline progress. The market for GLP-1-based therapies in obesity, diabetes, and beyond could reach $200 billion globally by 2031, and large pharmaceutical firms are vying to develop differentiated assets that could compete with market leaders Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. Pfizer's obesity drug pipeline crumbled with the discontinuation of oral GLP-1 drug candidate danuglipron in April due to liver safety concerns. At a Sept. 19 meeting, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted to recommend healthcare provider consultation prior to covid vaccination for individuals six months and older but voted against requiring a prescription. The committee’s recommendation for individual decision-making for covid vaccines (rather than prior recommendations supporting vaccination) could weigh on demand for the vaccines from Pfizer ( PFE)/BioNTech (BNTX) and Moderna’s (MRNA).
