Bella Albrecht New Stock Analyst Reports On April 9, The Wall Street Journal reported that American spirits maker Sazerac has approached Brown-Forman BF.B about a potential deal. This follows news last month that French spirits maker Pernod Ricard was in acquisition talks with Brown-Forman. Whereas a combination with Pernod Ricard would offer product and geographic diversity, Sazerac relies heavily on whisky and North America, similar to Brown-Forman. Nevertheless, a competitive sales process increases the likely offer price. Brown-Forman and Sazerac are the third- and fourth-largest players in the US whiskey market, respectively. A combination would create a combined 24% market share, ahead of leader Suntory's 21%. This could warrant a regulatory review, given the increased market concentration.
