Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Nature's Path-it's basically the organic breakfast rebel that's been doing its thing since way before "organic" became the trendy buzzword plastered on every grocery store aisle. Founded back in 1985 by Arran and Ratana Stephens in British Columbia, this family-owned company has grown into North America's largest independent organic breakfast and snack food brand. And they're still family-run, which is kind of rare these days.

What makes them interesting is the backstory. Arran grew up on his family's organic berry farm in the 1930s-yeah, the 1930s-when his dad told him to "always leave the earth better than you found it." That phrase became their actual company motto, trademarked and everything. It's not just marketing fluff either. They've put their money where their mouth is, owning over 5,600 acres of organic farmland and working with family farmers representing roughly 100,000 organic acres.

The product lineup is pretty extensive now-over 150 items including cereals, granolas, oatmeal, waffles, toaster pastries, and tortilla chips under brands like Nature's Path, EnviroKidz, Love Crunch, and Que Pasa. Everything's certified organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, and vegetarian. A lot of it's vegan and gluten-free too. They've been fierce about the anti-GMO movement since 2001, even dropping $600,000 to support California's Prop 37 for GMO labeling.

But here's what's kind of cool-all three of their manufacturing facilities are zero-waste certified. They donate at least $2 million worth of food annually to food banks and charities. When you buy their EnviroKidz products, a portion goes toward endangered species conservation and environmental education. It's the triple bottom line thing: socially responsible, environmentally sustainable, financially viable.

They employ around 500 people and sell in over 40 countries. The company's regularly named one of Canada's best employers, though employee reviews are mixed-some love the mission-driven culture, others mention the usual manufacturing job challenges like long shifts and high turnover.
