Editor's Take
You know what's fascinating about Olay? It's basically the skincare equivalent of that friend who's been quietly perfecting their craft for decades while everyone else was chasing trends. Started back in 1952 by a former Unilever chemist in South Africa, Graham Wulff, this brand has been around for over 70 years-which in beauty terms is like being a centenarian who still looks 30.
The whole thing began with what was essentially a happy accident of marketing genius. Olay's marketing was unique because it was never described as a moisturizer, nor even as beauty fluid. Nowhere on the packaging did it say what the product actually did. Print advertisements used copy such as "Share the secret of a younger looking you" and talked about the "beauty secret" of Oil of Olay. Talk about playing hard to get-and it worked.
But here's where it gets interesting: Procter & Gamble acquired the brand in 1985 and greatly expanded Olay both in the line-up and internationally. Olay became P&G's 13th billion dollar brand in 2013. That's not just success; that's "we're-buying-small-countries" level success.
What really sets Olay apart isn't just the longevity-it's the science. Backed by 72 years of scientific expertise, Olay has been proven to deliver effective skincare solutions you can rely on. With decades of proven research, Olay delivers trusted results that help women look younger. They're not just throwing around buzzwords; they're actually putting money where their mouth is with research and development.
And speaking of putting money where their mouth is-their iconic red jar was honored as a Hall of Fame Winner in the Beauty Awards 2024 by People Magazine. Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream boosts skin cell regeneration for visibly firmer, younger-looking skin. When People Magazine gives you a hall of fame award, you know you've made it.
The brand's approach is refreshingly straightforward in a world full of 47-step skincare routines. Olay promises to empower confidence through innovative skin care solutions - rooted in science, that nourish, protect and rejuvenate for healthy, radiant skin at every age. No nonsense, just results-which is probably why dermatologists keep recommending them.
