How do returns work for gift recipients?
OluKai offers gift returns in the form of eGift Cards to use towards the purchase of any item on their website. They do not provide direct gift exchanges. You will need to return your gift for an eGift Card and use it to purchase another item.
Editor's Take
So here's the thing about OluKai-it's one of those brands that kind of sneaks up on you. You see the sandals everywhere, from Hawaiian beaches to Colorado hiking trails, and you start wondering what the fuss is about. Turns out, there's actually a pretty compelling story here.
Founded in 2005, the company set out to create footwear for people who live and play by the water, blending Hawaiian-inspired craftsmanship with serious comfort. The name itself means "comfort ocean" in Hawaiian, which is basically their whole vibe in two words. But what makes them different from every other beach-inspired brand trying to sell you flip-flops?
For starters, they're not just playing dress-up with Hawaiian culture. In 2014, they founded the Ama OluKai Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with local organizations to preserve Hawaiian culture, and a portion of all OluKai proceeds directly supports it. That's not marketing fluff-they've been doing this since day one, even before the company was profitable. They've also maintained their status as a Certified B-Corporation for over a decade, joining more than 1,000 other certified corporations across 33 nations.
The footwear itself is where things get interesting. Notice how some sandals feel like you're walking on cardboard? OluKai went the opposite direction, designing anatomically contoured footbeds that actually support your feet. They use premium materials-full-grain leather, recycled polyester, natural latex for rubber elements-and source from environmentally conscious tanneries. Every pair comes with a one-year guarantee against manufacturer's defects, and they'll replace covered footwear at their discretion.
Here's where it gets real: OluKai worked with the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association to develop official footwear for the state's lifeguards, and now 450 lifeguards patrol in these shoes, with a percentage of each sale going to the Junior Lifeguard Program. When actual ocean professionals choose your product for their job, that says something about durability and function.
They've expanded beyond just sandals too-sneakers, boots, golf shoes, even pickleball footwear. The drop-in heel design on many styles lets you convert shoes to slides in seconds, which is surprisingly practical. And they're not hiding in some warehouse; they operate six stores across Hawaii plus locations in California, giving you a chance to actually try stuff on and talk to people who know the products inside out.
The price point sits in that premium-but-not-luxury zone where you're paying more than Old Navy but less than designer brands. For footwear that lasts years (people regularly mention five-year lifespans), the math kind of works out. Plus, they offer free exchanges within 30 days and free shipping on orders over $120, which takes some of the risk out of buying online.
