Returns
What is the return window?
Petco offers a 60-day return window, but you'll want to return within the first 30 days to get a full refund. If you return between days 31-60, you'll only receive store credit instead of a full refund.
Do I need a receipt to return an item?
Yes, you need to bring the item, your receipt, and a valid government-issued ID to make a return. Without a receipt, you won't be able to make a return. That's why it's recommended to link Petco purchases to your Petco rewards account by providing your phone number at checkout.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
You cannot return Petco gift cards. Petco will only allow you to return live fish, plants, or other aquatic life if they die-not just because you changed your mind. Certain items fall under Petco's non-returnable category including prescription medications and pharmacy products, personalized items, and saltwater aquatic life. Additionally, in-store services such as grooming and dog training are non-refundable.
How will I receive my refund?
Your refund will be issued to the same method of payment you used for the original purchase. If you paid with a check, your refund will be issued in cash.
Can I return online purchases in-store?
Yes, you can definitely return your online Petco orders in-store, and that's recommended to avoid return shipping fees. Any Petco or Unleashed store accepts online purchases.

Petco isn't just another pet store-it's basically become the Walmart of pet care, but in the best possible way. With over 1,500 locations spanning the U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rico, they've managed to create something pretty remarkable: a one-stop shop that actually gets what pet parents need.
What sets them apart? It's the whole ecosystem they've built. Sure, you can grab dog food and cat toys (and they've got everything from budget-friendly basics to premium organic stuff), but they've also integrated veterinary services, grooming, training, and even pet adoption right into their stores. Customers experience their exclusive selection of pet care products, services, expertise and membership offerings in stores and online at petco.com, and on the Petco app.
The numbers tell the story-they employ over 28,000 people (who they call "partners," which feels less corporate) and have been at this for nearly 60 years. That's a lot of kibble and a lot of happy pets.
But here's what's really interesting: they've embraced the whole "pet parent" culture shift. They believe in the universal truths of pet parenthood-the boundless boops, missing slippers, late night zoomies and everything in between. And they're here for it. Every tail wag, every vet visit, every step of the way. It sounds cheesy, but when you're standing in the aisle at 8 PM because your dog decided to destroy his favorite toy, you appreciate having a place that understands the urgency.
Their Vital Care membership program is pretty clever too-it's like Amazon Prime but for pet stuff, with perks that actually make sense for pet owners. And they've gotten smart about the whole omnichannel thing, letting you order online and pick up in-store, which is clutch when you're dealing with 40-pound bags of dog food.
The grooming and training services are where they really shine though. Instead of having to coordinate between three different businesses, you can literally drop off your dog for training, grab some supplies, and pick up your newly-educated pup all in one trip.
