Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Princess Cruises - they're kind of the sweet spot in the cruise world, and not just because they're literally "The Love Boat." Founded back in 1965, this isn't some newcomer trying to figure things out. They've been at this for nearly 60 years, which means they've had plenty of time to work out the kinks.

What really sets Princess apart is their fleet size and reach. We're talking about a cruise line that operates 18 modern ships visiting over 380 destinations across all seven continents. That's not a typo - all seven. Want to see Alaska's glaciers? They've got you covered with their own exclusive rail service and wilderness lodges. Dreaming of the Mediterranean? Caribbean? Asia? They sail there too, with itineraries ranging from quick 7-day getaways to epic 107-day world cruises.

But here's where it gets interesting. Princess has basically revolutionized the whole cruise experience with something called MedallionClass. Think of it as the cruise industry's answer to a smart home, but on water. You get keyless cabin entry, the ability to order food and drinks delivered anywhere on the ship, and they'll even help you find your travel companions onboard. It's the kind of tech integration that makes cruising feel less like a vacation from the 1980s and more like, well, an actual modern vacation.

The company is owned by Carnival Corporation now, which gives them serious backing and resources. They employ around 15,000 people and pull in some serious revenue - we're talking hundreds of billions. Their headquarters sits in Santa Clarita, California, just north of Los Angeles, though they've got offices scattered around the globe including Seattle, Fort Lauderdale, and field offices throughout Alaska.

And if you're worried about feeling like just another passenger on a massive ship, Princess has thought about that too. They maintain nearly one crew member for every two guests, which translates to that "never in the way, never out of reach" service style they're known for. Whether you want to be social or prefer to disappear into your own little world, the ship's designed to accommodate both.

The dining alone is worth mentioning - multiple specialty restaurants, traditional dining rooms, and with their Princess Plus and Princess Premier packages, you can basically bundle everything from drinks to Wi-Fi at a discount. It's the kind of thing that actually makes financial sense if you're planning to, you know, actually enjoy your vacation.
