Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Printfresh-it's not just another pajama brand trying to sell you overpriced sleepwear. Founded in 2016 by textile designer Amy Voloshin and her husband Leo, this Philadelphia-based company has basically turned the loungewear game on its head with prints that are, honestly, kind of addictive. We're talking hand-painted patterns inspired by flora, fauna, and home décor that Amy literally creates herself. Each design starts as a gouache painting before being translated into digital illustrations and then hand screen-printed onto 100% organic cotton by their partners in Jaipur, India.
But what really sets Printfresh apart is their commitment to size inclusivity-they offer sizes from XXS to 6X, plus petite and tall options. That's not just marketing speak; they genuinely want everyone to find their perfect fit. And they've grown like crazy because of it. In fact, they won the 2023 Inner City 100 Business Growth Award for the second consecutive year with a staggering 5,280% growth rate since 2018. Yeah, you read that right.
The brand started small, with Amy packing and shipping orders from her house. Now? They've expanded way beyond sleepwear into a full lifestyle brand with dresses, robes, home décor, and accessories. They even had a storefront in Manhattan's Upper East Side for a while, though they've since closed it to focus on their online presence and wholesale partnerships with boutiques across the country.
What's interesting is how they've stayed true to their values while scaling up. Printfresh is a majority woman-owned business that's serious about sustainability-using organic plant-based fabrics, reducing waste in packaging, and implementing eco-friendly manufacturing practices. They're also part of Pledge 1%, committing resources to philanthropic endeavors and supporting organizations like GiveIndia, the Loveland Foundation, and Philadelphia's MADE Institute.
The prints themselves are wild and iconic-you won't find a Printfresh pattern on anything else, which is kind of the point. Customers know what to expect and keep coming back for more. Whether it's their classic cotton poplin pajamas (perfect for spring and summer), drapey flannel sets, luxe velvet pieces, or their eco-friendly satin loungewear made from breathable viscose, there's something for every season and preference.
And here's a fun detail: their printed pajamas have pockets (though the embroidered styles don't). Because who doesn't need pockets in their pajamas? The company also offers monogramming, though fair warning-monogrammed items are final sale.
Notice how Printfresh has managed to build a loyal community around their brand? They've got over 332,000 Instagram followers who regularly share photos with the hashtag #myprintfresh. That kind of organic engagement doesn't happen by accident-it's the result of creating products people genuinely love and want to show off.
The pricing reflects the quality and ethical production, with short sleep sets starting around $84 and more luxurious items like satin robes going up to $248. They offer free shipping on US orders over $195 and have a pretty customer-friendly return policy with a 30-day window (extended to January 10th for holiday gifting).
What started as Amy's dream to combine her passions for quality fabrics, bold prints, and sustainable practices has evolved into a nationally recognized lifestyle brand. And they're doing it all from their studio in Paper Box Studios, a converted warehouse in Philadelphia's Olde Kensington/Fishtown neighborhood. Not bad for a company that began with one woman's vision and a whole lot of colorful prints.
