Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Promptly Journals-they basically took one of the most intimidating tasks (keeping a baby book, documenting your relationship, or just journaling in general) and made it, well, actually doable. And that's kind of a big deal.

The company was founded by Jayne Swallow, who started it because she wanted to capture memories of her first daughter without all the pressure of those overwhelming blank pages staring back at you. You know the ones. They believe in the power of journaling to improve mental health and well-being, with prompted journals that help capture what matters most-whether that's childhood memories or emotional growth from self-care.

What makes them different is their approach: no overwhelming blank pages here-they ask a question, you answer, easy peasy. Their flagship product, the Complete Childhood History Journal, covers pregnancy through 18 years old in one book. That's roughly 250 pages of guided prompts that parents can complete in as little as one hour per year. Notice how they're not asking you to scrapbook or spend hours crafting-just write down what matters.

They've expanded way beyond baby books though. There's the Love Story Journal (about 400 pages for couples), Travel Journals (150 pages), connection journals for parents and kids, postpartum journals, grief journals, gratitude journals-basically journals for every major life experience. In 2022, they merged with Loom Journals to add even more connection-focused products to their lineup.

The journals come in 12 different colors (Grey, Sand, Sage Green, Navy, Blush Pink, and more) with either linen or leatherette hardcovers and archival paper. They're made to last, which matters when you're planning to hand something to your kid on their 18th birthday. And the prompts are intentionally inclusive-no religious content, minimal spouse references for single parents, just thoughtful questions that work for everyone.

What's interesting is that Jayne herself admits she hates writing. Pretty ironic for someone who owns a journaling company. But that's exactly why these work-they're designed by someone who gets that most of us don't have time or energy for elaborate memory-keeping. The company ships from Logan, Utah, and they've built a pretty loyal following (90,000 Instagram followers and counting). They only do a few big sales per year, so people really seem to buy them at full price, which tells you something about the value.
