It’s officially October in Oscoda, and travelers can expect to see gorgeous fall colors on their weekend visits. While you can spot vibrant reds, oranges and yellows from just about anywhere in town, there are few experiences that compare to driving along the River Road Scenic Byway. The byway stretches 20+ miles along the Au Sable River in the Huron-Manistee National Forest. There are numerous scenic overlooks along the route, including the Westgate Overlook near the Westgate Welcome Center, Iargo Springs, Canoer’s Memorial, and Lumberman’s Monument and Visitor Center. Other points of interest along the route include a variety of trails, including the designated Pure Michigan Highbanks Trail.
