So here's the thing about Quiksilver-it's basically been the blueprint for surf culture since 1969. And yeah, that's over 50 years of boardshorts, wetsuits, and that iconic mountain wave logo you've probably seen everywhere from actual surf shops to your local mall.
What started in Torquay, Australia (think rugged coastline, perfect breaks) has morphed into this massive action sports empire now headquartered in Huntington Beach, California. The brand's whole vibe is about that restless, adventure-seeking lifestyle-whether you're chasing powder on a mountain or hunting the perfect wave. They've managed to stay relevant by not just sticking to surf gear but expanding into snowboarding and skateboarding, which honestly makes sense when you think about it. Same kind of person, different terrain.
Here's what's interesting: Quiksilver isn't just some standalone brand anymore. The parent company, Boardriders Inc., owns a whole portfolio including Roxy (their women's line that accounts for about 30% of sales), DC Shoes, Billabong, and RVCA. Then in 2023, Authentic Brands Group swooped in and bought the whole operation. So yeah, it's corporate now, but the products still carry that surf heritage DNA.
The company operates hundreds of retail locations globally-everything from "Boardriders Club" stores to factory outlets-plus they're sold through major retailers and their online store. Their product range is pretty extensive: boardshorts with 4-way stretch, wetsuits with WarmFlight thermal lining, hoodies, tees, backpacks, watches, eyewear. Basically, if you can wear it to the beach or the slopes, they make it.
What keeps people coming back? The quality's solid, the designs hit that sweet spot between performance and style, and there's still something authentic about the brand. When you buy Quiksilver, you're not just getting a boardshort-you're buying into this whole lifestyle thing they've been cultivating since before most of us were born. Whether that matters to you probably depends on how much you care about surf culture versus just needing decent gear that works.
