Editor's Take
Revival Animal Health isn't your typical pet supply company-it's basically the veterinarian's secret weapon that regular pet owners discovered. Started back in 1989 by Dr. Roy Nielsen Jr. (everyone called him "Doc Roy") in his basement after he retired from veterinary practice, the company began as a way to get quality vaccines directly to dog breeders and rescue organizations.
What makes Revival different is they're not trying to be everything to everyone. They focus specifically on health products-vaccines, dewormers, supplements, prescription medications-the stuff that actually keeps pets healthy rather than just entertained. And they ship vaccines in these specialized polar boxes with ice packs to maintain proper temperature, which is kind of a big deal when you're talking about medications that can lose effectiveness if they get too warm.
The company's grown from that basement operation to serving over 50,000 customers nationwide, but they've kept that Midwest, family-first culture. Roy Nielsen III took over from his dad and still runs the place, and employees consistently mention the genuine family atmosphere (though some recent reviews suggest growing pains as they've expanded).
Here's what's interesting: Revival fills a specific niche between your local vet and big-box pet stores. Veterinarians often charge premium prices for the same vaccines and medications Revival sells directly to consumers. A 10-dose parvovirus vaccine that might cost significantly more at a vet clinic runs about $32.99 through Revival. They're not trying to replace veterinary care-they can't diagnose conditions or prescribe medications without a vet's prescription-but they're making routine preventive care more accessible.
Their customer base includes professional dog breeders, animal shelters, and individual pet owners who want to take a more hands-on approach to their pets' health care. The company maintains an in-house veterinarian and pharmacy staff, so you're not just buying from a warehouse-there's actual expertise behind the operation.
Revival's also expanded into specialized areas like their Breeder's Edge line for reproductive health and Great Companions for bird supplies. They've built a reputation for fast shipping (they guarantee overnight and 2-day delivery for vaccines) and solid customer service, with phone support available during business hours.
