Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Roxy-it's kind of the OG when it comes to women's action sports brands. Like, actually the first one. Back in 1990, when Quiksilver decided to launch a women's line, it was basically a gutsy bet on female surfers who hadn't gotten nearly the attention they deserved. And man, did it pay off.
What started as just swimwear turned into this whole lifestyle empire. We're talking surf gear, snowboarding equipment, activewear, accessories-basically everything an adventure-seeking woman might need. The brand's heart-shaped logo (which is actually a clever flip of the Quiksilver wave logo) became instantly recognizable, showing up on beaches and slopes worldwide.
But Roxy isn't just about looking good while catching waves or carving powder. The brand has serious technical chops. Their snowboards are made by Mervin Manufacturing-the same folks behind GNU and Lib Tech-so you know the quality's legit. And their DryFlight technology in snow gear? That's the real deal for keeping you dry and comfortable when you're pushing limits on the mountain.
The athlete roster tells you everything you need to know about Roxy's credibility. Lisa Andersen, the four-time world champion who basically revolutionized women's surfing. Sarah Burke, the freestyle skiing legend. Chloe Kim, who just tied Shaun White's record with 8 X Games gold medals. Caroline Marks, who snagged Olympic gold in surfing. These aren't just sponsored athletes-they're pioneers who've shaped their sports.
What's really interesting is how Roxy has stayed true to its roots while evolving. Sure, they've dabbled in going more fashion-forward at times, but they always come back to what works: gear for women who actually do stuff. Surfing, snowboarding, yoga, running-whatever gets you moving. The brand's "Make Waves, Move Mountains" philosophy isn't just marketing speak; it's reflected in everything from their athlete camps to their product design.
And honestly, that's what makes Roxy special. In a world where women's athletic gear was often just pink versions of men's stuff, Roxy said "nah, we're designing this from scratch, by women, for women." That was revolutionary in 1990. It's still pretty damn important today.
