Hi ,
Does summer ever leave you more drained than energized, even on a "good" day? Japan has a word for it — natsubate, or "summer fatigue." Not a diagnosis, but a recognized seasonal experience there. 🥵☀️ As temperatures climb, your body has to work harder to cool itself down — increasing blood flow to your skin while reducing it to your digestive system. Rising body temperature also directly signals appetite-regulating neurons in the brain to suppress hunger. That's part of why appetite drops in peak heat — add in electrolyte loss and disrupted sleep, and "tired" becomes the new normal. 🌟 Here are some Japanese summer habits I practice: 🍵 Sipping unsweetened, caffeine-free tea, or water all day, not just when I'm thirsty 🥣 Reaching for light, easy-to-digest foods when my appetite dips 🌡️ Avoiding big swings between AC and outdoor heat 🥂 On low-appetite days, I'll have a glass of water with R's KOSO — it makes it easier to stay nourished without forcing down a full meal. Check out our newest blog post for the full breakdown (plus what to do once natsubate hits) here ✨
