When Refined is Required Problem Solved We sell our durable Classic style leather goods to Pilots, Judges, Doctors and Executives of very large companies, all day long. You know… something professional, like Indiana Jones would carry. But for years, they’ve told me that they also need something a little more formal and sophisticated for occasions where cufflinks are the norm and refined is required; something traditional like James Bond would carry, but strong, like a James Bond that bleeds. | | The problem for them, and for those whose fashion conscious style demands a more polished look, the alternatives are either too boring, breakable, soft or dainty and their self-esteem doesn’t drive them to own a status symbol bag. Enter Saddleback Leather’s Silverback Collection. That problem is no more. Silverback is here. Welcome. | | | | What Defines Silverback? Saddleback Leather’s more refined and sophisticated style is finally here. I call it the Silverback Collection. It is not for everybody since it is made with one of the toughest, tightest fibered and most luxurious feeling vegetable tanned leathers in the world. Few can tan leather at such a high level and none can tan it better than the Italian tannery we chose. And the lining is none other than the nearly impenetrable and buttery smooth, engineering marvel from God, called goatskin. Both of these leathers, along with the high level of extra craftsmanship required, make these bags very expensive, but worth it at twice the price if the feeling that comes from admiration and owning one of the highest quality bags in the world brings you joy. | | Is Silverback For You? As gorillas age and mature, the hair on their back grows silvery, like some of us. Therefore, the name Silverback. The whole gorilla pod depends on their leader to guide and protect them for survival. Are you a Silverback? I’m not asking if you have silver hair on your back, but are you one of the wisest, most respected, most powerful and dominant in your world? If so, then this collection will speak that, without words. Or are you planning to be? As they say, “The shoe maketh the man”, so it is with what you carry. | | Same Person, Different Occasion The Silverback and Classic styles of Saddleback Leather are both for the same respected person, but each makes its own statement. Strong, down to earth professionalism or sophisticated, refined professionalism. Choose the one that you identify with most, but don’t choose just one. | | Don’t Say That About Yourself In 2022, Rolls Royce asked for Saddleback Leather’s Trunk to be in their coffee table book and we went to London for the book launch. A well dressed man walked by carrying a leather briefcase that would have looked the part at the park or in the office, but not at that event. It was clear to everybody, the man borrowed the suit. He was clearly not a Silverback because he did not have the discernment to carry a bag like a Silverback would have carried at an event like that. Don’t be that guy and only own one briefcase. You don’t just own one pair of shoes, do you? Distinguish yourself and carry the style of briefcase that fits the occasion.
What you carry makes a strong statement about who you are. If you don’t care about what you carry, then that makes a strong statement too. | | - Same over-engineered design with no breakable parts like zippers, snaps, magnets or velcro
- Same 100 Year Warranty
- Same reinforced stress points
- Same custom overkill hardware that is the strongest we know of on any bag in history
| | | | - Both are built with a man’s leather, Full Grain.
- For Classic designs, we use incredibly strong 2 - 2.2mm thick Chrome tanned work boot leather for many specific reasons.
- For Silverback designs, we chose the same 1.8 - 2mm thick and natural Italian vegetable tanned leather that we use for our high level semi-dress Officer’s Boots, but with more of a sheen. We designed this leather to keep its original beauty intact while allowing a slight and natural patina with use.
- Both are lined with very strong skin.
- Classic Saddleback designs are lined with the soft suede side of tough and durable pigskin.
- Silverback designs are lined with the buttery smooth side of the nearly impenetrable goatskin.
| | Similarities in Design Aesthetic - Same historical traditional styles
- Same natural marbled leather to remove all doubt
- Same triangles and threes in design
- Same Saddleback curves and corner radiuses
- Same contrasting, highly polished custom 316 Stainless Steel hardware
| | Distinguishing Design Details - Both use the same German industrial strength Polyester thread: Classic designs are double stitched with very coarse thread, at 5 stitches per inch, for a rugged, over-engineered look. Silverback designs are single stitched with a normal gauge thread at 7 stitches per inch to give it a sleek, smooth and finer look.
- Saddleback Classic was designed with slightly elevated removable straps for more shadows to give depth and contrasts. The Silverback straps are sewn to the body and have fewer pieces to cast shadows.
- The Classic style comes with raw yet burnished edges. The Silverback style has meticulously stained and painted edges with a sheen.
- Classic Saddleback has reinforcing rivets to back up all stitching at every stress point. Silverback reinforces every stress point with excessive stitching and has three nickel plated rivets solely on the Saddleback shield.
- The Classic designs have wide belts and shoulder straps while the Silverback style is designed with narrower straps and belts to give a finer sense of elegance.
I have been working on this Silverback Collection for over 15 years and have finally matured enough in my designing and in my own personal style to get it right. It brings me joy to bring you this joy. | | Dave Munson El Presidente (The President) Saddleback Leather Co.
