Returns

What is the return window?
If you are not completely satisfied with a Sephora purchase or gift for any reason, Sephora welcomes you to return new or gently used products for a full refund to your original method of payment if returned within 30 days of purchase, in most cases. THIS POLICY IS EFFECTIVE FOR ALL PURCHASES MADE ON AND AFTER APRIL 24, 2025.

Do I need a receipt to return an item?
New or gently used items returned without a receipt but found within our system will be processed according to the applicable Sephora refund and exchange policy. Any products not verifiable within our system will be ineligible for a refund, exchange, or merchandise credit. You can provide a packing slip, order confirmation email, or your Beauty Insider account information to help locate your purchase.

Can I return online purchases in-store?
For new or gently used items returned in a Sephora store, please provide any of the following: an original packing slip, Sephora.com Order or Shipping Confirmation email, the Sephora.com order on your mobile device or your Beauty Insider information. Your return will be processed according to this refund and exchange policy.

What if I purchased from Sephora at Kohl's?
Merchandise purchased at Sephora at Kohl's locations or on kohls.com cannot be returned to Sephora locations or mailed to Sephora. To return an item purchased at Sephora at Kohl's or ordered on kohls.com, please visit a Kohl's retail store or follow the Kohl's return guidelines. Sephora at Kohl's merchandise must be returned within 30 days from date of purchase for a refund to the original form of payment.

How will I receive my refund?
If you paid with Klarna or Afterpay, and Sephora receives your new or gently used item within 30 days of purchase, the purchase price will be refunded to a credit or debit card of your choice. This refund will NOT be applied to your Klarna or Afterpay account and you MUST continue to make payments to Klarna or Afterpay per the original agreement. For other payment methods, refunds are issued to the original payment method within 30 days.

Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Sephora-it's basically become the place where beauty obsession meets actual accessibility, and that's kind of a big deal. Founded back in 1970 in France, this wasn't just another cosmetics counter. It was revolutionary, really. The whole open-sell concept? That was Sephora saying "go ahead, touch everything, try it all, figure out what works for you" at a time when beauty shopping meant dealing with intimidating salespeople behind glass counters.

And they've stuck with that philosophy. Walk into any Sephora today and you'll find over 250 brands sitting side by side-the cult favorites, the indie darlings, the luxury splurges, and their own Sephora Collection that's surprisingly good for the price point. It's this massive playground where a $12 lip balm shares shelf space with a $200 serum, and nobody's judging your cart either way.

But here's where it gets interesting. Sephora isn't just riding on its brick-and-mortar success. They've absolutely nailed the digital game in ways that feel genuinely useful rather than gimmicky. Their app? It's packed with tools like Color IQ that actually help you find your foundation match using AI technology. They were early adopters of things like Instagram checkout and augmented reality features that let you virtually try on products before buying. That's not just keeping up with trends-that's understanding how people actually want to shop for beauty products now.

The Beauty Insider program deserves its own mention because it's legitimately one of the better loyalty programs out there. You earn points on every purchase, get birthday gifts, access to exclusive sales, and the more you spend, the better the perks get with VIB and Rouge tiers. During their signature Savings Events, members can score up to 20% off basically everything, which for a prestige beauty retailer is pretty substantial.

What really sets Sephora apart, though, is how they've made beauty feel less exclusive and more exploratory. Their stores offer services-makeup applications, skincare consultations, brow shaping-performed by trained Beauty Advisors who generally know their stuff. They've created this environment where you can spend an hour swatching lipsticks or testing fragrances without anyone hovering or pressuring you to buy.

The company's also been pushing hard on inclusivity and innovation. They've committed to initiatives like the 15 Percent Pledge, stocking more Black-owned brands, and their Sephora Accelerate program helps beauty founders of color grow their businesses. With over 11,000 employees in North America alone and a presence in 33 countries, they're not just selling beauty products-they're kind of shaping what the beauty industry looks like.

Notice how they've managed to stay relevant even as beauty influencers and direct-to-consumer brands have exploded? That's because Sephora adapted. They partner with these brands, feature them in stores, create content that competes with YouTube tutorials, and basically meet customers wherever they are-whether that's TikTok, their app, or a physical store in Times Square.

The pricing spans a pretty wide range, which means you can walk out spending $30 or $300 depending on what you're after. And with their return policy (recently updated to 30 days for refunds), you can actually try products at home and return them if they don't work out, even if you've used them. That's confidence in what they're selling.
