Editor's Take
You know what's fascinating about Shelving.com? It's this family-owned business that's been quietly revolutionizing storage solutions since 1960 - and honestly, they've got this whole thing figured out in a way that bigger companies just can't match.
They launched their website back in 2004, which might not sound groundbreaking now, but think about it - they were selling industrial shelving online when most people were still figuring out what "e-commerce" even meant. The company has been in the storage business for over 50 years, and that experience shows in everything they do.
What really sets them apart is their dual approach. They've got their main industrial site at Shelving.com, plus a consumer-focused sister site called TheShelvingStore.com. So whether you're outfitting a massive warehouse or just trying to organize your garage, they've got you covered. And get this - they work with over 2,000 manufacturers, which means they're not just selling you one brand's solution; they're finding the right fit for your specific needs.
The company moved to Madison Heights, Michigan, but they've stayed true to their Detroit roots in the best possible way. They donate 10% of their profits to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit - not just writing checks, but actually getting involved in their community. That's the kind of thing you just don't see from massive corporations.
But here's what really impressed me: they have a resource center on call to help answer questions through phone, email or chat. With under 30 employees, they're a small business that can take care of some big jobs. There's something refreshing about being able to actually talk to someone who knows their stuff, rather than getting bounced around a call center.
The technical side is solid too. They offer phone support Monday through Thursday from 8AM to 7PM EST, and Friday from 8AM to 5PM EST. And if you're the type who likes to see things in person, their showroom is open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4PM EST.
