Editor's Take
You know what's wild? Most people think Ski-Doo is just another snowmobile brand, but they're actually looking at the company that basically invented the whole sport. Like, seriously-before 1959, nobody was zipping around on snow for fun.
The story starts with this guy Joseph-Armand Bombardier tinkering in his garage in tiny Valcourt, Quebec. And here's the kicker: the name "Ski-Doo" was actually a typo. They meant to call it "Ski-Dog" (you know, like replacing sled dogs), but someone messed up the printing, and boom-Ski-Doo was born. Sometimes the best things happen by accident.
But what really gets me is how BRP (that's Bombardier Recreational Products now) has managed to stay on top for over 65 years. They've got this obsession with innovation that borders on ridiculous. Take their new 2026 lineup-they're rolling out electric models alongside their traditional 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. That's not just keeping up with the times; that's leading the charge.
The numbers are pretty staggering too. BRP employs close to 23,000 people worldwide and operates in over 120 countries. Their Ski-Doo brand alone has become so iconic in Canada that it made the CBC's list of greatest Canadian inventions. And honestly? When you see these machines carving through powder at altitude, you get why people are obsessed.
What strikes me most is how they've managed to keep that garage-inventor spirit alive even as they've grown into this massive global operation. They're still headquartered in that same little Quebec town where it all started, still pushing boundaries, still making machines that turn winter from something you endure into something you crave.
The coolest part? They're not just resting on their legacy. With their new turbo engines and electric models coming online, plus all the connected tech like their BRP GO! app for navigation and trail sharing, they're basically reinventing snowmobiling for a whole new generation. Pretty impressive for a company that started with a happy accident in a small-town garage.
