Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Sorrelli-it's basically what happens when someone decides jewelry should actually last longer than your average relationship. Founded back in 1983 by Lisa Oswald, this isn't some mass-produced stuff churned out by machines. Every single piece is handcrafted by actual artisans in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, which is kind of refreshing in an age where everything feels disposable.
The backstory's pretty cool, actually. Lisa was getting invited to all these fancy NYC parties in the '80s and had nothing sparkly enough to wear, so she just... made her own jewelry. Her friends wanted pieces too, and suddenly she had a business. The name "Sorrelli" comes from "sorelle," which means sisters in Italian-a nod to that whole friendship and connection vibe that started it all.
What sets them apart is they're not messing around with the quality thing. We're talking brass bases with 10K gold or palladium plating, crystals sourced from around the world, natural freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones. And get this-they back everything with a Lifetime Promise. Not a warranty that expires after 90 days or whatever. An actual lifetime guarantee covering everyday wear and tear. Missing stones, broken clasps, small solder breaks-they'll fix it. There's a small processing fee (around $9.95) to cover shipping, but the repairs themselves are free.
The company's still family-owned and operated, now into its second generation with Lisa's daughter involved in leadership. They employ around 45-63 people (depending on the season), and many of their artisans have been with them for over 11 years. That's pretty remarkable in an industry known for high turnover.
Their flagship store sits right on Main Street in Kutztown, and they sell through hundreds of authorized retailers across the country. Prices start at around $30 MSRP for basics, making it accessible without feeling cheap. They release new collections at least three times a year-Spring, Summer/Fall, and Holiday-so there's always something fresh.
But here's where it gets interesting. Notice how they emphasize the handcrafted aspect? Every chain link is soldered. Every crystal and stone is placed by hand. In a world where "handmade" often means "assembled from pre-made parts," Sorrelli's actually doing the work. Their pieces are designed to be heirlooms, the kind of thing you pass down to your daughter or niece, not the stuff that turns your skin green after three wears.
The aesthetic leans antique-inspired with a modern twist-think vintage glamour meets everyday wearability. They're big on layering and stacking, encouraging customers to build their own look rather than buying complete matching sets. It's jewelry for people who actually wear jewelry, not just for special occasions.
One thing that stands out: they offer a "Make-A-Mate" program. Lost one earring? They'll craft a replacement for half the price of the original set. That's the kind of customer-focused thinking that keeps people coming back. They also do professional cleanings for $10 per piece, and they've been doing jewelry repairs for over 37 years, so they know what they're doing.
If you're into sparkly things that won't fall apart, Sorrelli's worth checking out. It's that sweet spot between costume jewelry and fine jewelry-quality materials and craftsmanship without the four-figure price tags.
