Returns

What is the refund window?
If you change or cancel your Southwest vacation prior to departure, all supplier penalties, fees for hotels, rental cars and/or activities will be waived for the first revision instance. Any additional fees incurred from changes made to your vacation after the first revision are not waived. You must request your refund within 60 days of canceling the package. After that, you may not get a refund from the airline.

Are there any items that are non-refundable?
The air portion is nonrefundable once purchased, but is reusable. In case of a modification or cancellation, Southwest Vacations will apply the value of the reusable air to the new air on the modified reservation. If the reusable air value cannot be applied to the reservation, it can be redeemed by the same passenger for future air travel which must be completed by the expiration date.

How will I receive my refund?
If booked with Wanna Get Away fare and you cancelled your flight at least 10 minutes prior to travel, the air portion of your booking will be refunded in a Southwest Airlines air credit, which may be used on a future Southwest Vacation. Anytime and Business Select fares are refundable back to the original form of payment or choose to convert the air credit.

Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Southwest Vacations-or I should say, Getaways by Southwest now. It's kind of a big deal in the vacation package world, and honestly, the timing of this rebrand couldn't be more interesting.

For years, Southwest Vacations operated as this third-party thing run by ALG Vacations Corp. You'd book what you thought was a Southwest package, but really you were dealing with a completely separate company that just had Southwest's name slapped on it. And let me tell you, that caused some confusion. People would call Southwest Airlines expecting help with their vacation package, only to find out they needed to contact a totally different customer service team.

But in August 2025, Southwest finally said "enough" and brought everything in-house with Getaways by Southwest. It's their first real venture into controlling the entire vacation experience from start to finish. The platform lets you bundle flights with hotels, rental cars, and ground transportation to more than 30 destinations-think Las Vegas, Orlando, Hawaii, Cancun, Punta Cana, and Montego Bay. Basically, all those places where Americans love to vacation.

Here's what makes it actually worth considering: you earn 5 Rapid Rewards points per dollar spent on the entire package, not just the flight portion. That's pretty solid. Plus-and this is huge for longtime Southwest fans-you get two free checked bags when you book through Getaways, even though Southwest ditched that policy for regular flights earlier in 2025. It's like they're giving you a little taste of the "good old days."

The flexibility is decent too. Cancel your trip and you get travel credits valid for 18 months that work on future Getaways bookings. No change fees, which tracks with Southwest's general vibe. They've partnered with some heavy hitters like Caesars Entertainment, Playa Hotels & Resorts, and Sandos Hotels & Resorts for the accommodations.

The platform is still pretty new, so it's evolving. They're planning to eventually let you redeem Rapid Rewards points for packages, not just earn them, which would be a game-changer. For now, it's cash only.

Bottom line? If you're a Southwest loyalist who flies them anyway, Getaways by Southwest makes the planning process dead simple and throws in some nice perks. Just don't assume it's automatically the cheapest option without comparing prices.
