Editor's Take
Here's the thing about kids and the outdoors-it should be simple, right? But anyone who's wrestled with tiny shoes that won't stay on or watched a toddler's mittens disappear for the third time that morning knows it's anything but. That's basically where Stonz comes in.
Founded back in 2004 by a mom in Vancouver, the brand started with a pretty relatable problem. Lisa Will was trying to take her baby hiking, and his shoes kept falling off while his pant legs rode up, leaving his legs exposed to the cold. So she designed a bootie that actually stayed on. Simple solution, but kind of genius when you think about it.
Fast forward two decades, and Stonz has turned that one frustrated hiking trip into a full line of outdoor gear for kids ages 0-6. Their footwear, apparel, and accessories are designed specifically for kids, prioritizing comfort, ease, and durability through every stage of growth. And here's what makes them different-they're thoughtfully crafted with non-toxic materials and kid-friendly features. No flame retardants, no formaldehyde, no phthalates. Just vegan-friendly gear that parents can actually feel good about.
The Cruiser shoe is probably their biggest deal right now. It won the 2025 Baby Innovation Award for Shoe Product of the Year, and it's backed by podiatrists-both APMA and CPMA certified. Notice how they're not just making cute shoes? They're actually thinking about foot development, which matters more than most people realize when kids are learning to walk.
But it's not just shoes. They've got rain boots made from natural rubber (because plastic boots off-gas chemicals), winter booties with removable liners, mittens that actually stay on thanks to a toggle system, and even full rain suits and snow suits. The whole philosophy is about making premium-quality gear that lasts-so families can buy less, waste less, and pass it down.
And people seem to love them. Customer reviews talk about how the gear holds up through multiple kids, how customer service actually responds when there's an issue, and how the products just... work. Which sounds basic, but when you're dealing with squirmy toddlers in the rain, "just works" is pretty much everything.
The company's still based in Vancouver, still mom-founded, and still focused on that original mission: making it easier for families to get outside. They work from home Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and come to the office Tuesday and Thursday, living their values of Doing What It Takes, Curiosity, Collaboration, Trust and Humility. So yeah, they're not some massive corporation-they're a team that actually seems to care about what they're making.
If you've got little kids and you want them outside without the gear becoming a whole production, Stonz might be worth checking out. They've spent 20 years figuring out how to make outdoor gear that works for how kids actually move, and that's not nothing.
