So here's the thing about Stratia-it's basically what happens when someone with a chemistry degree gets really, really obsessed with skincare ingredients. And I mean obsessed in the best possible way.
Founder Alli Reed spent years diving deep into dermatology journals, which honestly sounds like my idea of a nightmare, but it paid off big time. She got inspired by this particular study about ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids and thought, "You know what? I'm gonna make my own moisturizer." Fast forward to today, and the brand she accidentally founded is on track to make $4 million this year.
What makes Stratia different isn't just the science-first approach-though that's definitely a thing. They're driven by hard research, not marketing gimmicks, which feels refreshing when you're used to brands throwing around buzzwords like confetti. Everything's made in small batches at their Los Angeles HQ, and they actually formulate, manufacture, hand-bottle, and ship everything from the same downtown LA location. That's pretty rare these days.
The pricing is another standout feature. Products range from $15-$28, which is totally reasonable for science-backed skincare. Their bestseller, Lipid Gold (formerly Liquid Gold), is this powerhouse moisturizer that contains ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids-basically the three main ingredients that make up your skin's moisture barrier.
But here's what's really interesting: Stratia basically grew out of Reddit's skincare communities. Reed was active in subreddits like skincareaddiction before she ever thought about starting a brand. She blogged under "The Acid Queen" and shared her research with the community. When she finally launched, people already knew exactly what she was about.
The brand's also gotten some serious validation recently. Natura's investment vehicle Fable took out a £2m stake in the company, and they're seeing 250% customer growth year-on-year. Not bad for a brand that started as someone's chemistry hobby project.
