So here's the thing about Studs-it's basically what happens when someone finally asks, "Why does getting your ears pierced have to feel like a sketchy mall experience or a hardcore tattoo parlor visit?" Founded in 2019, this brand has carved out this really specific niche that nobody knew they needed until it existed.
The whole concept revolves around what they call "Earscaping," which sounds a bit precious at first but actually makes sense. It's the art of curating your ear piercings and jewelry like you're designing a tiny landscape on your ear. And honestly? The approach works. They offer safe and expert ear-piercing services with needles and a wide assortment of cute, high-quality earrings-never piercing guns, which is a big deal for anyone who's done their research on piercing safety.
What sets them apart is the vibe. Their studios are clean, modern, and welcoming-kind of like if a boutique jewelry store and a professional piercing studio had a really well-designed baby. They've got 26 studios nationwide, from New York to LA to Chicago, and they're still expanding. Each location has what they call "Earbars" where you can browse hundreds of earrings ranging from $10 to $160, all sold as singles or pairs so you can mix and match.
The piercing process itself is pretty thoughtful. They do consultations to figure out what works with your ear anatomy (because not every ear can pull off every piercing placement), and they only use needles for better precision and healing. All their piercing jewelry is made of 14k or 18k solid gold, or high-quality, implant-grade titanium, and all their piercing studs have flatback titanium labrets. That's the kind of detail that matters when you're literally putting metal through your body.
Price-wise, it's accessible but not dirt cheap. Piercing services start around $35, plus the cost of jewelry. But you're paying for expertise, safety, and a curated experience. They've been named one of Fast Company's most innovative retail companies, which tracks-they've basically reimagined an entire category that hadn't evolved much in decades.
One thing that's kind of genius: they offer free piercing services if you book with an apprentice (you just pay for jewelry). It's a win-win-apprentices get real-world practice under supervision, and customers get a deal.
The brand has this whole culture thing going on too. Their values include "We're All in this Together" and "We're All Ears"-working together with integrity and creating a culture of feedback and transparency. It sounds corporate-speak-y, but when you read customer reviews, people genuinely seem to feel welcomed and heard.
Bottom line? Studs took something that used to be either super clinical or super sketchy and made it feel like a fun, safe, personalized experience. If you've been thinking about getting a new piercing or just want to upgrade your earring game, it's worth checking out. Just maybe book ahead-walk-ins are welcome, but appointments help you avoid wait times.
