Editor's Take
Picture this: You're standing along Florida's Intracoastal Waterway, palm trees swaying overhead, and some of the biggest names in music just steps away. That's SunFest for you - basically the crown jewel of South Florida's festival scene since 1982.
What makes this festival kind of special? Well, it's not just another music event thrown together in some random field. Founded in 1982, SunFest is Florida's largest waterfront music and art festival. The whole thing happens right in downtown West Palm Beach, which means you get this killer backdrop of boats bobbing in the water while you're jamming to everything from hip-hop to rock.
And here's something you might not know - SunFest is produced by SunFest of Palm Beach County, Inc., a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. So when you're buying that overpriced festival water, at least you know it's going toward something good. They've got more than 1,600 volunteers; a staff of 5; and approximately 80 corporate sponsors.
The numbers are pretty wild when you think about it. SunFest attendance has decreased from 174,000 in 2017 to 85,000 in 2022. But honestly? Sometimes smaller crowds just mean more room to actually see the stage without some tall guy blocking your view.
Past lineups have been absolutely stacked - we're talking Pitbull, OneRepublic, The Chainsmokers, Lil Wayne, Don Omar, Bebe Rexha, Polo G, Nick Jonas, Flo Rida, and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie. Not too shabby for a waterfront gig in Florida.
But here's where things get interesting for 2025. SunFest will no longer take place on the traditional first weekend in May and they're exploring new dates for 2025, fresh venues, and formats. Change can be good, right? Sometimes you need to shake things up to keep the magic alive.
