Editor's Take

So here's the thing about S'well-they basically created an entire category that didn't exist before. Back in 2010, when founder Sarah Kauss launched the company, reusable water bottles were either boring utilitarian things or clunky sports bottles. S'well changed all that by making the first reusable water bottle that was actually stylish, turning containers into "an opportunity for expression."

And honestly? The timing was perfect. They've helped displace millions of single-use plastic bottles, which feels pretty significant when you think about it. But what's interesting is how they've managed to stay relevant as the market got crowded with copycats.

Their Therma-S'well technology keeps drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12-which actually works, unlike some of the knockoffs. I've noticed people still reach for the S'well when they want something that performs and looks good doing it. The company positioned itself as a "fashion accessory" rather than just drinkware, which was pretty smart marketing.

The brand went through a major transition in 2022 when Lifetime Brands acquired them, but they've kept that original design-forward approach. They recently launched a glass version of their iconic Original Bottle, wrapped in protective silicone with zero plastic-basically doubling down on the sustainability angle that made them famous.

What's kind of fascinating is how they've expanded beyond just bottles. They now make food containers, barware, and accessories, but everything still has that same aesthetic DNA. It's like they figured out their visual language early and just kept applying it to new products.
