Returns
What is the return window?
For domestic orders on Tatcha.com, the company offers full, anytime returns. They understand skincare is a personal purchase and sometimes an item is not right for you. You can contact them for a pre-paid return label to return items you weren't happy with and they will issue a full refund to your original form of payment.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
Your order should be directly from the Tatcha website. You also cannot receive a refund on any gift wrapping or shipping costs. If your item is nearly empty or has been opened, you cannot get a refund. Any gift sets should have all the items included for a return.
How will I receive my refund?
Tatcha will issue the refund back to the original form of payment within 5-7 business days upon receiving the return shipment and send an email confirmation confirming the details of your refund.
Who pays for return shipping?
Domestic orders in the USA as well as APO/FPO/DPO and U.S. Territories can be returned within 90 days by printing your own free UPS return shipping label. For returns outside of the United States, shipping costs are not covered by Tatcha at this time.
How do I start a return online?
Simply email [email protected] or call (888) 739-2932 ext.1 for a complimentary pre-paid Fedex return label.
Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Tatcha-it's basically what happens when someone takes a life-changing trip to Japan and decides to turn ancient beauty wisdom into a modern skincare empire. And honestly? It worked.
The brand was born in 2009 after founder Vicky Tsai visited Kyoto and discovered traditional Japanese skincare rituals that actually healed her severe dermatitis. She was so convinced by what she experienced that she left her corporate job, sold her engagement ring (yes, really), and bet everything on bringing these time-tested formulas to the rest of us. That's the kind of origin story that makes you want to root for a brand.
What sets Tatcha apart is this concept they call "hinou dokon"-which translates to "skin-mind same root." Basically, they believe your skin and brain are deeply connected, so skincare should be holistic self-care, not just something you check off a list. Every formula gets crafted at the Tatcha Institute in Tokyo, where scientists blend traditional Japanese botanicals like twice-fermented rice, green tea, and algae with proven clinical ingredients. Their signature Hadasei-3 complex shows up in most products, and people genuinely swear by it.
The product lineup has become cult-favorite territory. The Water Cream is everywhere on beauty counters for good reason-it's that lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that somehow manages to minimize pores without feeling heavy. Then there's the Dewy Skin Cream for people who want that plump, glowing look, and the Rice Polish cleanser that's been called one of the greatest skincare products of all time by WWD. Notice how their bestsellers aren't trying to reinvent the wheel-they're just doing cleansers, moisturizers, and treatments really, really well.
But here's what's kind of beautiful: Tatcha isn't just about selling you stuff. A portion of every purchase supports Room to Read's education initiatives. As of their latest numbers, they've funded over 10 million days of school for girls in Asia and Africa and distributed nearly 400,000 books to underserved kids in the U.S. So yeah, you're buying face cream, but you're also funding literacy programs. That's not nothing.
The brand got acquired by Unilever in 2019, which could've gone sideways (big corporations swallowing indie brands rarely ends well), but Tsai actually came back as CEO to help grow it within Unilever. You can find Tatcha at Sephora, Ulta, and on their own website, plus they've expanded internationally to places like the UK and Australia.
One more thing-their customer service is genuinely solid. They have this "Happiness Guarantee" where if you're not satisfied with something you bought from their site, you can return it anytime for a full refund. Not 30 days, not 90 days. Anytime. That's either incredibly confident or slightly insane, but it definitely makes trying new products less risky.
