Editor's Take
You know what's kind of amazing about Taylored Expressions? They're basically the craft world's best-kept secret that's not really secret at all. This Iowa-based paper crafting store specializes in stamps, dies, stencils and more to help you share joy through handmade cards, but honestly, that description doesn't do them justice.
Founded in 2008 and proudly manufacturing rubber stamps and dies in the U.S., they've got this whole thing figured out. They're a woman-owned paper crafts company that somehow manages to feel both professional and personal at the same time. And get this - their revenue is 25 times what it was when they were based in California after moving to Ankeny. That's not just growth, that's explosive success.
But here's what really gets me: their company mission goes beyond manufacturing high quality stamps and dies. Born from a passion to share the art of paper crafting with others, they strive to provide meaningful ways for people to express joy and live their lives creatively. See? They actually mean it when they talk about spreading joy.
The founder, Taylor Van Bruggen, started this whole thing because she began making and mailing handmade cards in her signature bright, cheerful aesthetic as a great way to use her scrapbooking supplies to bring a smile to friends and family from afar. That's the kind of origin story that makes you believe in what they're doing.
Stepping into their 19,200-square-foot flagship location is a bit like encountering the end of a rainbow. The brand's Ankeny headquarters envelops customers in an uplifting, organized-by-color atmosphere as they shop for stamps, stencils, embellishments and accessories. I mean, organized by color? That's the kind of detail that shows they really understand their customers.
And they're not just selling products - they build community locally with in-store workshops and open crafting opportunities. Plus, they do YouTube Live sessions Tuesday & Thursday at 10AM CST, so you can actually learn from them regularly.
What really strikes me is how they've managed to scale without losing their soul. Taylored Expressions stamps and dies may also be found in retail stores across the globe and through their growing list of wholesale customers, but it's still a family business. That's pretty rare these days.
