Dearest Festivarians,
With such little sunlight to share today, our moments feel ever more precious.
To waste is never our prerogative, but even a single breath may have much to give.
In my pause, I think to my antitheses, Juneβs longest day.
Lost in a moment, twirling in a sunbeam, so plentiful it could be endless.
Joy abounds, but too easily we can get lost in the bliss,
Taken for granted, as if our own beating heart, we forget to appreciate.
But not today.
Today, the daylightβs scarcity is the canvas that we draw upon;
To enjoy those moments that we never want to end.
Reflect upon today, as the days and weeks begin to blur.
Give thanks for me, my darkness, my chill.
For without my biting kiss, my calm and quiet grasp,
Our long and light filled days together may lack their enduring hold.
Iβm proud for my part, to bring balance to this life,
And I leave you with these words, as I watch the sun go down:
May our Planetβs darkest day not feel that way to you.
For every light until we gather, grows longer with each new sky of blue.
Come June we will all surely be, exactly where we would rather,
But without today the highest joys may not so much matter.
Give just a moment as the darkness grows
For it canβt see what we all know
Our light today, while easy to miss,
Gives the fuel to our future bliss.
Love,
The Winter Solstice
