Returns

What is the return window?
The Citizenry accepts returns within 30 days of delivery, though final sale items are ineligible for return. For orders placed from November 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, customers have until January 31, 2025, to process a return or exchange.

Do I need a receipt to return an item?
To make a return, you need to visit their Returns Portal within 30 days of receiving your order, and you'll need your order number and the zip code from your shipping address, which can be found in your order confirmation email.

Are there any items that are non-returnable?
Final sale items are ineligible for return, and items noted as final sale on the product page and within your order confirmation are not eligible for return. Purchases outside the contiguous U.S., art prints, Lomas Wall Hangings, gift cards, items with prices ending in $.97, and special event purchases are final sale and cannot be returned.

How will I receive my refund?
Returns for a refund incur no fee if your return includes only bedding or bath, though bedding does not include any throws, bed blankets, or decorative pillows. Returns for refund through their returns portal will incur restocking fees of $10 or $50, while exchanges and store credit returns are always free, except for white glove items.

Who pays for return shipping?
Returns for store credit and exchanges are completely free, other than for White Glove items. Once your return is authorized, you'll be able to download your shipping label online or from an email confirmation that you'll receive.

Editor's Take

So here's the thing about The Citizenry-it's basically what happens when two women get fed up with boring home decor and decide to do something about it. Carly Nance and Rachel Bentley started this whole thing because they were tired of uninspired furniture stores and wanted pieces with actual stories behind them.

And honestly? They nailed it. The company partners with artisans around the globe to create modern goods, traveling to bring the world's best craftsmanship home, with each design made by incredible artisans using the finest materials, all with fair trade standards. We're talking about everything from pillows and blankets woven in the mountains of Peru to leather goods crafted in the workshops of Marrakesh.

But here's what makes them different-they're not just another pretty home goods company. 100% of their products are made with a process guaranteed by the World Fair Trade Organization. That's not marketing fluff; that's their entire business model. The brand employs hundreds of artisans and reinvests 10% of proceeds back into those artisan communities around the world.

The numbers tell a story too. As of July 2025, they've hit $7.5M in annual revenue with approximately 25 employees across 3 continents. Not massive by corporate standards, but impressive for a company that's basically revolutionizing how we think about home decor supply chains.

What's really cool is how they've grown. Founded in 2014, they've managed to build something that feels both boutique and accessible. Their New York flagship store in the heart of Soho is designed to be a source of inspiration and a retreat from it all, while their online presence lets you shop from anywhere.

And let's be real-in a world where fast furniture dominates, The Citizenry is doing something that actually matters. They work with artisan partners across 21 countries and are passionate about creating an environment that celebrates differences in races, ethnicities, identities, and experiences. It's home decor with a conscience, which is kind of rare these days.
